“Best UK stay I have ever experienced”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2011

Myself and boyfriend recently stayed at the Halcyon over the weekend and having read the wonderful reviews were not at all disappointed. Hector is a true treasure and it is a pleasure to spend time in his company. He makes you feel like you are staying in his home not at his hotel - a true host. The rest of the staff are equally warm and inviting and could not do enough (even going to get my antihistamine tablets in the middle of the night for a hayfever attack) :). We both work in the corporate travel industry and know the value of a great place to stay and the Halcyon is certainly the best. I am sure we will be back soon.

Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Jes and Andy xxxx

The hotel is right in the heart of Bath and close to everything, the hotel staff were friendly and very helpful, but else there was nothing special about the place given the 138pounds-a-night room rate. The breakfast was simple (no cooked items) and our room (3.3 on the top floor) was ultra small and hot, albeit with a good shower and comfortable bed. Be aware that we had to put up with the screech of seagulls through the early hours of the morning. And we had to lug our cases up three flights of stairs as there was no lift, so traveling light is a must!

Fantastic 2 night stay at this hotel, only 3 minute walk from railway station & situated in perfect location in Bath centre.
Excellent twin room , spotlessly clean rooms with delightful White Company toiletries !!
Always very attentive staff , offering advice & booking restaurant reservations for you, on the whole a very good place to stay , would fully recommend to anyone.

A late arrival & we were welcomed by Hector with help in parking, where to go, a map, recommendations for our stay & even an umbrella for our evening out in the rain! After a quick drop off of our stuff to the clean but extremely petite room, he offered us a swop for larger, better room the next night...we didn't realise how much we'd need it until the next morning...with no aircon, an extremely noisy fan & being on top of some noisy machinery outside it was very welcome. Whilst out browsing the next day (we were given some good pointers on where o go & what times to visit the baths etc) our luggage was transferred to a nicer room...The extractor fan didn't work (luckily this time we had a good & quiet fan to air the bathroom) & wall mounted TV needed a bit of maintenance...but apart from that very pleasant & had everything we needed. Hotel bar had a nice atmosphere...extensive cocktail menu...though disappointing that the bar staff weren't prepared to make a liquor coffee in the evening...despite it being in their drinks menu. The barman said the machine wasn't working...one if the girls admitted that it was because they had stopped the coffee machine & weren't prepared to start it up again....disappointing! In all the rooms were clean....not exceptional, but the reception service really made the stay...would recommend to a friend, but only if they booked direct & confirmed the rooms first.

We stayed here for one night. When booking I asked for a quiet room and the lady asked if it was for a special occasion, I said yes, our anniversary. When we arrived at the hotel the manager told us we had been upgraded to a quiet room at the back?? In the room there was a card left for me that said happy birthday. I was a little let down that firstly I was told we had been upgraded when we hadn't been and then to get a birthday card when it was our anniversary! The room was big. There wasn't a wardrobe, but had hangers for clothes. There wasn't an iron, there was a hair dryer. I didn't like the little glass jars with the tea bags in, they were pointless to me. The downside to the room was the bathroom wasn't very clean.... Something to which I am very particular about! The major plus of this hotel is the staff. They are so VERY helpful and friendly and can suggest where to eat or go, nothing was too much trouble. For me that made it. The circo bar is fab, slick for an evening cocktail and you get money off drinks as a guest in the hotel. We had a nice waiter on a Thursday and he was friendly and I enjoyed watching him make the cocktails. The young lady we had at breakfast was chatty and helpful. Then she made cocktails for us in the afternoon. The hotel is a good 20min walk from decent restaurants, but two minutes from the station and five minutes from the shops. The circa bar and deck chairs are fab. The town house hotel is nice, it just needs a bit more cleaning and less trying to be a funky hotel. I would stay he again and I would recommend it for the great staff and a nice quiet hotel in a nice area. If it is a special occasion I think a nice touch would have been a bottle of wine or chocs!

What a great find this boutique hotel is!! Bang in the heart of Bath City, it was so convenient for everything you need to do in such a brilliant historical place to visit. What nice people too - Hector & the girls in reception were so helpful, they really put themselves out to suggest places to eat, drink & visit. The hotel itself has a great little bar downstairs where you can watch the barman mix your cocktails in very nice surroundings &atmosphere. The rooms are very clean & neat and this hotel has everything you need for one or more nights stay, not forgetting the lovely breakfast bar - we will be back for more- thank you Halcyon - you are a great team!
