I have always thought I may lay claim to making the best Sunday roast known to man, and although I didn't boast about it, It felt good. Having eaten Sunday lunch at The Chequers with my Mum and husband last week, I am defeated. We all agreed it was a notch up from my own. Sigh. We drooled as plates were delivered to the other tables but didn't have to wait long. Mum and I had beef (not the sharing roast; next time maybe) and husband had the lamb shank. All meats were melty and perfect, veg was incredible, perfectly cooked and varied and the Yorkshire puds had not only that lovely (i.e. massive!) shape and crunchy texture but a superb flavour that I've never achieved despite years of trying! Great location (what's not to love about Bath?), nice decor, good atmosphere and great staff. But to be honest, you could serve this food in a leaky tent in the rain with a naked John McCririck as head waiter and I'd still queue overnight. I'm drooling writing this...perfect and can't wait to go back.

We recently went to Chequers on a visit to Bath (from Yorkshire) and wanted somewhere we hadn't tried before but a little bit different to the city centre main restaurants etc. I would say the Chequers certainly delivered on all fronts.

As a visitor, but with a Bath resident (my mum as one of the guests), we like the fact there were clearly a lot of local people in the place and that there is a really 2 places in one here i.e. the bar downstairs which looked really quite nice (and served good real ale) and the restaurant area upstairs. We chose upstairs and felt it had a really good atmosphere, not too formal and very relaxing ambience to enjoy great food and wine.

All the food we ordered arrived in good time and was nothing short of superb. We also had a chat with the lady who served us (Clare) and enjoyed her enthusiasm for what the Chequers is serving but also doing as a business in general. We had 3 bottles of red wine with our food and they too were spot on.

So, food great, service excellent, and the general look and feel of the place just what we were after - says it all really. When we get chance to be back in Bath we will go again i'm sure. In the meantime i'm sure another Bath resident has been converted!

As Bath residents, we never tire of going to Chequers, the people are unbelievably welcoming and cheery despite being super busy and managing not to look it. They always fit us in last minute, recognise us and make us feel part of the place. The food is outstanding every time, the wine choice is wonderful and the recent second rosette is truly deserved, well done Leigh. The imagination of this young chef is second to none, the dishes are creative, beautifully designed, incredibly tasteful and are not your standard tiny plate, they are also extremely satisfying. We always end up choosing to go there and the menu changes regularly so we cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thanks to all at Chequers for such wonderful treatment and experiences. Particular compliments to the Chef!

This was absolutely one of the best Sunday roasts we've had eating out. Both our meals were delicious, and the chocolate fondant was a perfect Sunday treat. A special mention should go to the staff too, who were really friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Really cannot praise The Chequers Sunday lunch enough - everyone should try it!
