The Chequers is a pub turned Gastro pub, one of three run by same management in Bath, a City with many restaurants, many of high quality. It was booked up mid-evening on the day I wished to dine there so I accepted an early booking. The menu is reasonable, the prices a tad high as are many such establishments but the quality of food also high and the wine list quite broad and reasonably priced.
I chose a soup which was a little spicy but extreamly good followed by Cornish Hake which was excellent, my companion only had a main course,Roasted Plaice which was also very good. The restaurant was full, a good sign but the noise level was very high and we were moved to a slightly quieter table, I have eaten there several times and not been aware before of excessive noise so perhaps it was just a 'one off '. With a bottle of house wine and two coffee's the bill was £62-80.

Went here for a surprise Valentine's meal. Absolutely wonderful. Service was very quick and friendly. Had a bottle of the Brut Prosecco which was nice and dry on recommendation from the waitress. 5 course meal was perfectly portioned and delicious. Everything was cooked to perfect standards. Clean glassware and cutlery. Lovely candlelit atmostphere. Very much recommend it for any occasion.

I have eaten here three times in the last 2 months and the food has been excellent. There has always been new seasonal dishes on the menu and the pheasant I had was the best I have ever eaten. High quality produce, beautifully cooked, intense flavours and perfectly presented. It has always been busy which is a good sign but has on one occasion meant a longer than average wait after ordering, but it was worth it! Expect a pub vibe, if a large group comes in for a drink at the bar it does get rather noisy for a while. Definitely worth returning to (more than once...)

Nice pub, pleasant surroundings, good beer. The service was very good, friendly staff who seemed keen to please.

The main courses were good but, disappointingly, we didn't have a starter as there wasn't anything we liked the sound of. We're not particularly fussy and in our opinion, there could have been a bigger selection. Same for the desserts really - we were eating in the evening and the one we would have chosen had run out. Talking to others in the bar, we weren't the only ones who felt this way.
