My sister and I had the most amazing meal at The Chequers when we visited Bath. It was the foodie highlight of our Europe/UK trip. The 2 course lunch special was not only fantastic value but the food was worthy of a 1st class restaurant. Well done to everyone involved. !!!

from reviews and from fist impressions of the look of the place and friendly welcome, i was expecting this place to be really, really good. good choice at the bar and the menu looked very appetising.
very long wait till our food was served though- two large roast dinners. like the pub, they looked great, but the meat was gristly, the gravy was nigh on nonexistent and the roast potatoes were almost (but not quite) unpleasant in a dry/old cooking fat kind of way. the leeks and beetroot on the side were lovely though.
the puddings for me were the main letdown. the rice pudding was nothing at all special, and my lemon posset was cloyingly oversweet with a totally non-meringuey meringue on top. very disappointing, and the pudding like the main was left half uneaten.
ah well. i doubt i'll be back here for food- i much prefer the king william, but might pop in for a pint as genuinely a nice pub.

Always have a good experience here whether it is for food or just drinks. Delicious choice, and good hearty options. The fish and chips is really good!
Great atmosphere, and the staff are always very attentive.

This pub in Bath close to the famous Circus and Royal Crescent is a wonderful spot for lunch. They offer a 2 or 3 course special that changes frequently plus the more standard dishes. Most days a seat can be found without booking, however on weekends it is more difficult.
Portions are adequate and well balanced with dishes combining interesting flavors. A variety of beer and wine are available. This is a pub I feel comfortable visiting alone to eat or to have a drink. Althought only about 2 blocks off, Chequers isn't on the main tourist track, so if you don't know Bath well, it is helpful to locate on a map before setting out.
