This was our first visit to Bath, and we stayed 2 nights. Anthony rang us as we travelling to Bath to ask roughly what time we would arrive, only to make sure someone was there when we did arrive, and indeed we were warmly greeted on arrival, we both thought what a lovely touch this was, we were then duly shown to our room, and what a wonderful room it was, beautiful views of Bath, a very comfortable bed, and spotlessly clean, en-suite, and beautifully decorated.
Tea and coffee..... and a jug of chilled water was provided in the room as the temperature was 80+ degrees, as well as a TV with normal channels and complimentary Wi-Fi which was very reliable
On our first evening and since it was a beautiful summers evening, we all had drinks and a most interesting conversation in the garden, with Anthony and his wife Nicole.
Location was also convenient, although not right in the centre, it was a short walk away.
Breakfast was excellent every morning, and at a time to suit us, you can help yourself to fresh fruit with yoghurt and afterwards a full english beautifully cooked by Anthony's fair hand ! and as much tea and coffee as you wanted. Once we had finished Anthony had time to sit and chat and was most interested on what our and other guests plans were for the day.
Anthony was also a great help on places to visit e.g. Alexandra Park breath-taking views !!.
On leaving, checking out was so smooth, and we were both really sorry to leave.
We will definitely be returning when we next visit Bath, so if you are thinking of visiting Bath we would highly recommend staying here.

Nice place, well located, quiet surroundings, good breakfast. Anthony is a great host. Stayed there for 5 nights and I loved it from the beginning. Had to change rooms once and the first floor room is better than the attic.

Room Tip: I definitely recommend it.

(1) Anthony O'Flaherty is a genuinely warm and friendly host - we felt welcome from the moment he opened the door to us to the farewell.

(2) The rooms are comfortable / clean plus have gorgeous views.

(3) The house & garden have a good vibe / energy so it made us instantly relax. On Sunday morning we could hear church bells in the distance and bird song from our room. It was an idyllic experience - sounds dreadfully clićhed but as a Londoner I appreciated the change of atmosphere.

OTHER STUFF:

(1) One thing to consider is that Beckford House is a good 20 minutes brisk walk to the city centre - it's downhill so fine going in, but somewhat of a trek on the return leg. Bus stop is nearby if you want to take the weight of your feet.

(2) Vegetarian options - do ask Anthony as he will cater for - he got Linda Macartney sausages for us as a substitute.

(3) Free and reliable Wifi available.

(4) Parking - yup not a problem at Beckford House.

Anything else - during our 3 night stay we saw fellow guests from Germany and Australia - all seemed very happy with their stay at BH, so that's further additional evidence that it's a nice place.

Room Tip: Guest room 2 offers a panoramic view and my god how the sun streamed in - bathed the room in a warm...

This was our first trip to Bath.

Upon being greeted by Anthony (the owner) we were instantly at home. He was very welcoming and had plenty of insight as to what to do/see in Bath.

We had a beautiful room, the size was great with nice sized shower - the bed was amazing!

Breakfast is all you will hope for and is prepared at your request.

15 minute walk into the centre of town, it is a lovely walk allowing you to take in the architecture and views.

We will definitely be back

In our visit to Bath we had planned to spend little time in the room so that we could maximize our time exploring the city and spending plenty of time at the thermite baths the city is so famous for. Given this it was a wonderful surprise to find such a reasonably priced bed and breakfast staffed by a warm, amicable host in Anthony whose breakfasts ensured you had a hearty way to start your day.

My wife and I spent four days here and we found the facilities to be excellent for the price and I've honestly had worse at four star hotels so Anthony really goes a long way to making sure you feel comfortable. Our accommodations featured a canopy bed and attached bathroom with a reasonably large shower and a water re-heater to ensure you had plenty of hot water to start your morning. In addition you were provided with tea and coffee in the room as well as a TV with normal channels and complimentary Wi-Fi. Having never stayed in a bed and breakfast before I was somewhat concerned about security but the door to your room locks and Anthony also provides you a key to the front door so you can come and go as you please.

Breakfast itself is done wonderful and is provided from 8-9 am each morning. There are only two rooms for let in the house so breakfast is an intimate affair with at most six people sitting around the table each morning. Anthony arranges yogurt and fruit for you to pick from and then makes breakfast to order, generally consisting of proper British fare such as eggs to order, grilled tomato, potatoes, back bacon, mushrooms and toast which you can adorn from an ample selection of jams and marmalades. Tea and coffee are of course provided and the service is fine--you get wonderful conversation and while breakfast is made to order we waited no more than 15 minutes. There were various breakfast spots I would have liked to have tried in Bath but honestly Anthony's cooking never had me wanting to start the morning anywhere else.

With regards to location Beckford House is a little inconvenient to the city center so be prepared for a 20-30 minute walk up and down the hill but it is a way to work off the calories after a huge morning breakfast. If you have limited mobility you'll want to avoid Beckford House though; rooms are all on the second floor and there is no elevator (nor did we expect it) but elderly or handicapped travelers will want to stay at a traditional hotel. Also the rooms have an eastern exposure so on good weather mornings you will be woken up by the amount of sun that comes through the curtains so bring an eye mask if this is an issue for you. Finally for all nights we had neighbors we didn't hear a sound from them and the noise from downstairs wasn't an issue so we never had the experience of one of the earlier reviewers who complained about noise and difficulty working.

Overall Beckford House made for a delightful stay and we will be back on future visits to Bath--the price, food and hospitality were all wonderful. The only minor issue is that Beckford House doesn't have an online reservation system so you will need to phone them but it was well worth it.

Room Tip: All rooms have eastern exposure so bring an eye mask if you don't want to be woken up by the sun...

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights during a city break in Bath. The house is tastefully decorated with many unique paintings and ornaments. We enjoyed the larger than average bedroom with four poster bed which we were upgraded to at no extra charge. The room had open views towards the city centre. Off road parking is a bit tight but we were able to park everytime we needed to and managed to get in and out reasonably easily. There was a good selection of breakfast cereals and fruit available, nice coffee and toast and a well cooked breakfast with the host taking notice and remembering special requests which he did for all 3 breakfasts. One morning we needed to leave early and requested an earlier than normal breakfast which was no problem to the owner of the bed and breakfast. On the downside we found that the tea and coffee making facilities in the room could have been replenished every day we were there but contrary to some of the other reviews we found the towels to be of a higher quality than many bed and breakfasts we have stayed in and although the furniture was not modern it was of a high quality antique style with a new looking flat screen television in the room. Remembering that this is a bed and breakfast establishment I would have no hesitation recommending a stay to family and friends.

Room Tip: If possible ask for the four poster room however we did not see any of the other rooms.

I stayed at Beckford House on a regular weekly business trip to Bath, whilst working at the University. Due to numerous problems, I should have moved out to another B&B earlier, but as I was working long hours, didn't have the time to search the market.
Aside from the fact the owner's hospitality and customer service leaves a lot to be desired, there were numerous specific problems, as follows:
1). I agreed a price for the room exc breakfast of £45 p.n., however, without any warning or adequate notice the owner increased the price to £55 p.n. - an overnight increase of 22%!!!
2). Noise coming from the owner's family accommodation in the evening and late into the night. When I made a comment, I was told that this is also a residential home for his family as well as a B&B and therefore I should accept the noise
3). Cleaning of the rooms was at a low standard, with rooms in my view, not cleaned properly, nor hoovered most days, just tidied superficially. Towels were dark grey, so difficult to say when they were last washed.
4). The carpet in my room was in a poor condition, warn and badly stained in places.
5). The owner is clearly trying to save on his heating bills because my room was mostly cold with the central heating working much reduced hours, a serious problem especially in the cold weather experienced lately
6). Very tight car park, with limited turning circle, which requires at times reversing dangerously into the oncoming traffic through a narrow gate
In summary - I will never stay at this B&B again - even free of charge!
