“Fit for a Lord”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2009

Excellent is the only word to describe our stay at High Beeches, a real home from home.
The accomodation is first class, and the breakfast fit for a king. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Ian and Ali.

We honestly could not have found a better place to stay - Ian and Ali were so hospitable and friendly, we loved our weekend at High Beeches!

Our room was huge, clean and so comfortable, with an amazing bathroom. Breakfasts were fantastic, a great start to the day! Even though High Beeches is away from the centre of Bath, the bus stop was only a very short walk down the road and Ian & Ali go to a lot of effort to drop you off and pick you up whenever they can and also provide really detailed instructions to get back so we had no problems at all - in fact we appreciated having some peace and quiet in such beautiful settings.

We appreciate all your help and hope we can come to Bath again to stay! We would highly recommend High Beeches to anyone visiting Bath; it was ideal for a lovely weekend away.

It was our first time in a B & B, usually we stay in Travelodges or 4* Hotels. This accommodation, although not cheap, ticked all the boxes. Superb room, excellent bathroom with a fabulous walk in shower - all well appointed and very clean.
The breakfast was excellent - cereal or fresh fruit salad and a massive "Full English"
As an added extra Ian the proprietor was full of advice and tips on getting around the area, including offers of lifts into Bath (now you don't get that at a Travelodge)
Would certainly come again.

High Beeches was very pretty, a small room but we had our own bathroom and a big comfy bed. The owners were very nice and the breakfast was excellent. The only problem we had was the parking. Not enough room for all guests so you are required to double park and then asked to leave your car keys with owners if needed to move. Not a huge problem, just thought to mention. Free Wi-Fi made up for this though!
We had a car so getting into Bath was not a problem. If you didnt have a car, you would have to rely on public transport to get you there A bus stop is not far away though at all. Walking into Bath would be ok but it is a 15-20min downhill walk to Bath, and then uphill to get home. Maybe walk down, bus up.
The Cross Keys pub is 1 minute away. The food wasnt great at all, but it was very traditional English. We drove a few more minutes to the pub suggested by the B&B owners, in South Stoke(??) which was great. Highly recommended as a very traditional, but also full of hip-young-folk type, hidden off-street pub.

Good B&B for Bath and surrounds!

My mum and I have been to Bath before however, on this occasion we decided not to stay at the Hilton but to look for a more traditional guest house.
When we arrived it was a bit chotic (even though we did state we would be arriving early to check in and then going to the spa for the day). We were however, given a lift into Bath (which was very nice) but on the drive in we notice in was very far out of the town centre and not the 10mins walk that was suggested on the internet site. Nevertheless, we had a lovely day in Bath however, when we got the bus it cost us £4.90 to get home and then as it was pitch black and there are no street lights we were walking blind up the road to find the house. The house was cold - all night! and the lovely view was masked by the condensation on the windows. We were lucky my mum had brought a hot water bottle! The room was nice but could have done with a few extra touches (considering it was meant to be the best room). The kettle had seen better days to be honest and there were no personal touches.
On a positive note the breakfast was gorgeous and the Cross Keys pud across the road was quiet, friendly and the food was lovely. The owners of high-beeches were nice and friendly but we did not feel entirely welcome or at ease. If we had been staying two nights the journing in and out of Bath on the bus would have been a real pain and expensive!
We are not moaners, nor do we write unfair comments. However, it is up to personal opinions and ours would be 'too expensive for the service'.

  • Liked — The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was 100%
  • Disliked — The room was cold, smelt musty, owners seemed flusterd and tense by our arrival., too far from Bath town centre.

Feel very dissapointed at your comments here in view of the time you arrived 11am ish & the fact that we allowed you in early & then Ian especially drove you down to the Bath Therme Spa FOC of which there is no mention..You managed to knock us down 4 places on the reviews on your ratings in one review. If only you knew how long it took us to get to where we were.I would suggest next time you visit Bath or anywhere you stay in the Hilton & walk & get no personal service at all.

Our stay at High Beeches was excellent.

Ian and Ally made us feel very welcome in their home, and offered us great advise on places to eat and visit.

The location of High Beeches is perfect because its not far from Bath but at the same time is not in the city centre. The area is quaint and has great pubs and places to eat all around it.

The rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated. and breakfast was great.

I would recommend High Beeches to anyone.

Had a lovely 2 nights at High Beeches, the room was lovely and had a beautiful view. It felt very homely especially being able to give Rufus (the golden retreiver) a hug every day.
Thanks for the stay.
