Description: Situated around the corner from The Royal Crescent, The Marlborough Tavern combines the atmosphere of a local pub with the quality of a top restaurant. Two AA rosettes, a horde of local & national awards plus inclusions in The Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide bear testimony to their consistent delivery of high quality cooking. They have a clear approach to food find the best and freshest ingredients and to create great tasting, essentially simple dishes where the quality of the produce speaks for itself. Married to that is a passion for inventiveness that sees the menu constantly changing. Food is essentially though not slavishly English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. The lunchtime menu features a range of lighter dishes and sharing plates plus some traditional pub classics - and the Sunday roasts are legendary. Their food reputation is matched by their service always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They have an extensive wine list and selection of local ales, and they can mix a mean cocktail too. Outside they boast what is arguably Baths finest pub garden; a walled courtyard space, its perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

We drove for 2 hours just to have dinner at the Tavern - the food is that good!
All the staff are really friendly and they provide a great service to their diners.
Each time we eat there we enjoy some wonderful cooking that uses fresh seasonal produce.
The relaxed bar atmosphere of the place really helped us enjoy our food.
In the dinner menu I would thoroughly recommend the roasted pork tenderloin!

A planned meal based on tripadvisor review, we arrived early for our dinner reservation and slightly tired after a day of walking in Bath. We waited for 30min to be seated, even though our table was actually available, just not cleared of previous seating. We stood next to our table and waited for it to be cleared and cleaned- 30mins wait - no matter how we subtly hinted as one of my friends was pregnant. When finally seated, we have to wait for our menu and not a very knowledgable waitress served us. Truly they are not that busy that night, I saw waitresses chatting away behind the bar. The food was good but not great. I was disappointed and will probably not visit this restaurant again as there are many great alternatives in Bath.

Being a restaurant owner and owner of a hospitality consulting firm, I pay attention to the details in a restaurant visit, and place a high value on authentic and caring service. Visiting from the States, I asked our cab driver for his recommendation and he immediately replied 'Marlborough Tavern'. When we checked in at the Priory Hotel and Spa we asked the same question of the front desk person, and she immediately replied 'Marlborough Tavern'. So the decision was easy. We were greeted warmly, everyone was very busy but the staff remained upbeat and positive, and didn't use that as an excuse. The food quality was outstanding, the value was great, and our server Jenny was fantastic. The ambiance was terrific and just an all around great place. We look forward to going back. Eric G

When breaking for lunch at work you need it to be quick, relaxing, enjoyable and tasty. I went for the BLT which was so fresh it was hard not to make a mess from stuffing it into my mouth with a little too much eagerness. Fortunately, the knowledge that the lovely Abi was behind the bar peering over her glasses for an opportunity to freshen the drinks kept me on my best behaviour. This time at least.

My husband and I hosted our small wedding reception here (22 guests) and we were very impressed with The Tavern from start to finish. They were extremely helpful both on the day and beforehand which made everything run very smoothly.

Abi, the member of staff we dealt with was excellent in responding to emails, phone calls and face to face visits which made our afternoon run very smoothly.

We had several specific food requirements and several table decorations and place cards to lay out on the day. Abi very kindly sorted this out for us in good time to avoid last minute jobs on the day of the wedding.

The food was absolutely delicious and all of our guests were very impressed. The drinks served also went down a treat and staff were very welcoming on arrival.

Overall, we were both extremely impressed and really pleased that we chose to hold our special reception here. We thought it was very reasonably priced and worth every penny.

Thank you!
