Description: Situated around the corner from The Royal Crescent, The Marlborough Tavern combines the atmosphere of a local pub with the quality of a top restaurant. Two AA rosettes, a horde of local & national awards plus inclusions in The Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide bear testimony to their consistent delivery of high quality cooking. They have a clear approach to food find the best and freshest ingredients and to create great tasting, essentially simple dishes where the quality of the produce speaks for itself. Married to that is a passion for inventiveness that sees the menu constantly changing. Food is essentially though not slavishly English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. The lunchtime menu features a range of lighter dishes and sharing plates plus some traditional pub classics - and the Sunday roasts are legendary. Their food reputation is matched by their service always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They have an extensive wine list and selection of local ales, and they can mix a mean cocktail too. Outside they boast what is arguably Baths finest pub garden; a walled courtyard space, its perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

If you are looking for somewhere in Bath where the food is always excellent, where you can relax but also receive friendly great service . . . then go to the Marlborough Tavern. Within easy walk of the city centre, just above the Royal Crescent, this restaurant strikes exactly the right balance for a cosy meal for two or a place for family/friends to get together. Dinner or Sunday lunch, always very enjoyable.

“This is how all pubs SHOULD be.....”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

What a great evening we had - we arrived without a booking, but were welcomed and seated quickly at a large table. The offer to taste two wines before ordering was much appreciated, and the food was excellent, and plenty of it too. The atmosphere is buzzing without being too noisy, and the servers are first class, with a sense of humour but really efficient and 'on the ball'. Considering how near to the Royal Crescent this is, this might have become a tourist trap, but any tourist that ends up here should recognise their luck!

“Far more than a "Gastropub"”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

Situated near the Royal Crescent this is a great pub with fine cooking. All locally sourced with a real passion for what they are serving. The two course set lunch is a real bargain at £12 and there is a short and well chosen wine list. Very good vegetable and flower shop nearby which supplies them-a "farm shop" in a City!

“Worth the walk”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

The Marlborough Tavern is situated just outside the core of the city centre near the Royal Crescent but is worth the walk. A lively atmosphere and friendly, attentive service make you feel instantly welcome. As befits a restaurant that was a good pub not too many years ago, the choice of ales is decent and the wines by the glass list surprises by the variety and depth of the selection. The menu hints at something out of the ordinary and the food does not disappoint on that front. Crab three ways set the tone for the varieties on a theme dishes; lamb fillet was joined by shepherds pie (good fillet, but the pie lacked solidity), and the trio of pork with a potato/ black pudding cake accompaniment was very good. A simple but well executed chocolate brownie with an orange ice cream was a shared delight. This is a restaurant with a well deserved and growing reputation. Take that 10 minutes walk from Bath's busy centre - it will be worth it.

“Astonishing food, service and atmosphere.”
Reviewed April 18, 2014

I'm usually fairly difficult to please when it comes to dining out, however, my experience at the Bath's Marlborough Tavern was pretty much flawless. The first thing I was struck by was the incredible standard of customer service, enthusiasm and willing shown by the members of staff. The staff were warm, friendly, attentive and made us feel highly valued. We enjoyed a three course meal that was of a truly exceptional standard, immaculately presented and truly high quality taste. Everything about this experience exceeded my expectations and was one of the best meals I have ever had in a restaurant. Will definitely be returning soon.
