Description: Situated around the corner from The Royal Crescent, The Marlborough Tavern combines the atmosphere of a local pub with the quality of a top restaurant. Two AA rosettes, a horde of local & national awards plus inclusions in The Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide bear testimony to their consistent delivery of high quality cooking. They have a clear approach to food find the best and freshest ingredients and to create great tasting, essentially simple dishes where the quality of the produce speaks for itself. Married to that is a passion for inventiveness that sees the menu constantly changing. Food is essentially though not slavishly English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. The lunchtime menu features a range of lighter dishes and sharing plates plus some traditional pub classics - and the Sunday roasts are legendary. Their food reputation is matched by their service always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They have an extensive wine list and selection of local ales, and they can mix a mean cocktail too. Outside they boast what is arguably Baths finest pub garden; a walled courtyard space, its perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

We chose the Marlbourough Tavern after reading about it in Lonely Planet. The day we booked, despite starting out lovely and sunny, ended up cool and rainy, so we were pretty soaked by the time we'd trekked up to the pub from our B&B in the city centre.

We had called earlier in the day and booked for 8:15, and we were pleased (given we were soaked) that our table was ready 20 minutes early for us.

Our waitress was lovely, and helpful. I ended up with the halloumi salad, and my partner got the burger. While both were lovely, the burger (in my opinion) was amazing. You can tell someone seasoned that burger with love. It was the best I've had in a long while. The onion rings were fantastic too.

I wouldn't hesitate to return if we were back in Bath, or recommend this place to anyone.

This tavern is located near the Royal Crescent, a major Bath landmark. The food was trendy, tasty but a bit pricy, justified by the location. We walked up the hill from our B&B, enjoyed our mean, and Visited Victoria Park and the Royal Crescent on our way back. Go there and enjoy the experience.

Lovely atmospheric pub just beyond the Royal Crescent. We didn't eat there (I have heard a good report though) but the beer is good, with a good range.

Six "girls" on a spa weekend, we are quite particular about our food and drink - i.e. we love it! We found this pub via a newspaper recommendation and were not disappointed. Traditional Sunday Lunch was plentiful and delicious - one of us is a Veggie and she said her pea and mint risotto was incredible. The service was perfect - just attentive enough without being pushy. We spent well over an hour relaxing in the very pretty courtyard garden at the rear without being pushed to leave - and subsequently ordered puddings and more wine. Apparently the trifle with whisky cream was to die for.
I am unsure of our waitress' name but she deserves a mention for her photo taking ability! Would we go back? Like a shot!

Lovely atmosphere, great service and fantastic food. Staff were attentive, enthusiastic and really helpful with recommendaions. The quail starter was out if this world, as was the pork main course - just melted in the mouth. Good wine list too. And free glasses of fizz as it was our anniversary. Highly recommended.

Thank Catherine S
