“There's very little Good - Just mainly Bad! to be said about here”

OK, so where to start & in what detail? - we were a party of 4 early (7.00pm) on a Saturday night (we booked about 4 days prior just in case). We were greeted and seated nice and promptly with a drinks order shortly followed, all great so far. Opted for 2 garlic pizza breads with cheese for 3 of us to share, and 1 x garlic mushrooms. Pizza breads were delicious, but the mushrooms - well absolutely awful! - 5 or 6 vastly overcooked mushrooms with burnt crouton things arrived in a red hot skillet, so continued to cook almost bone dry - in hindsight we should have sent them back (oh and they cost £5.55 - nearly £1.00 per mushroom!!) Mains faired a little better - but still problems here! The mushroom ravioli came swimming in what is described as a creme fraiche sauce, but more resembled creamy dishwater it was so thin!, but overall the dish just about tasted ok, the two marguerita pizzas were fine - but they were the basic pizzas, so couldn't see how they would have been wrong and the Rigatoni with pesto and chicken dish was actually quite delicious - but overall for the cost (which we thought was very expensive given it is a "chain" restaurant - especially the Mushrooms!!) we all felt the portion sizes were too small. Given it is basically one large room with a hard floor and high ceiling it gets very noisy, what with the clinking of plates from the open kitchen, and lack of anything that would help to absorb the sound. In conclusion, there are about a hundred more restaurants/pubs/eateries to have evening dinner in Shrewsbury - so i think it will be a very long time before we might give this place another chance to tempt us to eat here.

“Evening meal”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

We thought we would treat ourselves to a nice meal out as it was my husbands birthday.
We sat in the middle of the restaurant and could hardly hear ourselves speak as it was so noisy. So we spent most of our romantic evening not talking to each other!
The starter was lovely, but when the main course arrived, I couldn't eat mine as it was dry pasta & tastless. My daughter could have done better!
We were really dissapointed as we have been here before & had a lovely meal.
The lady serving was very quick to give us a refund for our main meal.
I would reccommend sitting near the windows at the front at least you should be able to have a conversation!

“Restaurant meal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

A recent trip to celebrate my partner's birthday left me feeling disappointed. She had wanted to try this restaurant and birthday girls get their wish. She emerged happier than me - perhaps because I picked up the bill, but enjoyed the meal it more than me. We both agreed however that although the pizzas ordered were tasty, we were kept waiting too long - over forty five minutes . Background music nothing special, and - acknowledging preferences - both would have preferred some Italian opera. Glad we've tried it but we'll pursue our explorations since Shrewsbury offers great variety in a lovely town setting. This experience was a cut or so above ordinary but had the hallmarks of a restaurant chain with lack of ambience, while the bill higher than fully deserved.

“Delicious food - but hard to hold a conversation and relax”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

We have not been to this restaurant for some time - before it added Italian to its name. Courtesy of a well known supermarket clubcard offer, we decided to go for an evening meal as we frequently walk past the restaurant.

We booked just in case, but I was surprised at how busy it was for a Monday evening. Hannah our waitress was welcoming, very attentive and efficient. In the restaurant there was quite an echo, which made it difficult to hear the conversation with your partner over the table. The music was also a little too loud for my liking. It looked like they cooked in the open at the back of the restaurant so the sound of plates, cutlery, pans etc seemed to be evident all the time.

Apart from that the food was delicious. We had Goats Cheese Bread and Calamari for starters. Not too adventurous, we both had chicken (Pollo Milanese) for the main course and then Sorbet Limone and an Apple Rustica for dessert.

You definitely weren't rushed, taking a good two hours for the three courses. Not sure if I would want to go back in a hurry, mainly because there are a lot of other restaurants in town I haven't visited yet.

“Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

Good selection of food, pizzas cooked to order, staff friendly. It can get quite busy at times but not a problem if your are having a leisurely lunch, much preferred the old decor but thats just a personal observation!
