Went here for a wedding, very excited about it as it's one of the most popular wedding venues in Shrewsbury. The place itself is beautiful and very suitable for weddings. Food for the reception wasn't great though. Had a roast beef dinner... yorkshire puddings were burnt and cold, potatos were a bit hard, beef was cold and average. It was ok, bit disappointing though

We have stayed at the hotel a couple of times in previous years and enjoyed our stay. This time, we were calling in for lunch, but had not booked. I do wish the receptionist could be trained to say something more fitting than "Are you all right?", on entry! The place seemed empty, but they were not sure whether they could fit us in. Eventually, they did, without too much difficulty, it seemed.

Wines by the glass were expensive: we bought a bottle of Macon Lugny for £27. Meals were quite good, but I think more attention needed to be paid to detail, like enough dressing on the salad. The grilled salmon dish of the day was fine. Three local cheeses were offered, although these were fairly average in taste.

Generally, a visit here is worthwhile, but it could be improved considerably by better staff training and customer attentiveness. We would like to feel welcome.

It is a beautiful venue.

This place is over-rated in my opinion. The food is fine, but the prices are top end so I would expect to be raving about it. The place itself is a mixture of a fantastic old building and some rather badly done newer sections that were good in their day but are just not up to scratch by modern standards. Decor is period, but feels like a dated interpretation. Not authentic like Drapers Hall.
