“Good value”

Meals two for ten pounds very good value and tasty food. Nice feel to the place. Clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Good selection of beers too and hardly any time to wait. We would recommend a visit. In the centre of the town of Shrewsbury.

Unfortunately ,we opened the bedroom door to find stained carpets ,followed by a broken toilet seat ,which wasn't fixed during our stat ,even though we reported that it was broken .The statement was met with ' oh yes I believe there is a problem in that room with the toilet seat' and that was obviously all we were going to get. Fortunately there was a toilet outside our room on the landing we could use. We ate our tea here and had the 2 meals for £10 deal which were fine. On returning to our room to go to sleep ,I pulled the rust cover blanket up( it was folded in half on the end of the bed ) to find what appeared to be a blood stain on it ....I threw it off the bed ,I was too tired to complain but was quite disgusted !! Fortunately the white bed sheets appeared to be clean! Breakfast the next morning was one of the best breakfasts we have had ,in particularthe sausages were excellent! Also breakfast service was very good, unfortunately though we won't be visiting here again due to the accomodation.

We stayed in the double en-suite room at 60 pounds a night. But although we were just using it as a base to enjoy Shrewsbury, we were very disappointed on a number of factors. We expected something basic, but we also expected a certain level of cleanliness which unfortunately was completely absent. The furniture was covered with dust and the skirting boards were filthy, the bed sheets were dirty and covered in stains and the duvet cover even had what looked like shoe prints on it. But worse, much worse, the red throw they put on the bed seems to never have seen the inside of a washing machine. I'm afraid there was a large white mark on it that could only have been one thing... The hot tap in the bathroom didn't work, the shower took some coaxing to start and the coffee cups had clearly just been rinsed under a tap because there was coffee residue still inside them and a lipstick stain on one of them.
The only thing that lifted our spirits in the morning was the breakfast - delicious and served with a smile.

This is certainly a great location and a pub with a great atmosphere. But the rooms were rather basic and noisy due to the pub below. Service was very friendly. Value was excellent. Some of the rooms are not ensuite, so there is some walking up and down the hall for the toilet and the bathroom.

Room Tip: Be sure to specify ensuite accommodation

I stayed in another hotel for the weekend with my girlfriend and ate here both nights, reasonably priced great quality food and excellent service . If we go to Shrewsbury again, will definitely try to stay here.

We got our glad rags on and decided to visit our old restaurant in Shrewsbury and I'm glad to say we did not waste our time. I had chicken wings to start and so did my partner. For the main course I had steak and Onion pie which was done to my taste. My partner had Sausage and Mash but they were no ordinary sausages they were big and Margaret loved them. Its still a super old England pub with plenty to offer. The staff are always ready to see to your every need.
