Stayed here for 1 night as a stopover to meet friends from Staffs, on our way west. Was pleasantly surprised by the whole hotel, very clean and nicely decorated and nice location right opposite the River Severn. Were a bit concerned about it being noisy after reading other reviews, but we had the best nights sleep away from home for years, the bed was extremely comfortable and we both overslept. Had a room overlooking Mardol but the traffic didn't affect the room at all (109). The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we will definitely use it again when we return with the 2 teenagers next time we're in the area. Cant fault it.

My partner and I have just returned from a one night stay in the hotel. It was our first stay in a Wethys hotel and it certainly surpassed our expectations. Our room was lovely, decorated and furnished in warm, homely colours, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spotless. The hotel is across the road from the River Severn, perfect for a walk in the lovely weather we had. We are lovers of Wetherspoons pubs anyway because of the real ale, good food and cheap prices, so it was perfect for us after our evening meal and a few drinks just to walk a few steps back to our hotel room. We booked up the last room, and although the website promotes most rooms have a river view, ours overlooked the vent pipework from the kitchens and faced the back of an Indian restaurant, so we're unable to have the curtains open, not a huge thing but enough to not get five stars, sorry. We will be back because Shrewsbury itself is a lovely place, and we will try to get a river view, so I may give five stars yet.

Room Tip: Our room number was 101, bad view as above so ask for a river view.

We wanted to stay at this hotel for our wedding anniversary weekend. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The room itself was comfortable and clean albeit small (room 111) - these are the reasons we have rated it average, otherwise would have rated poor. The problem was noise from the alley way that our room overlooked. From 2am to 4 am on the first night we were regularly woken up. The second night it was still noisy. We live on a main road so are used to background noise, but this was terrible. The hotel is aware this is a problem. The double glazing units not installed during summer months. We have contacted Wetherspoons separately about this problem. It was very disappointing and did marr what should have been a really special weekend - we made the most of it and found two fantastic restaurants - The Curry House and The Golden Cross as well as making a trip to Powis Castle and the boat trip on the Sabrina is worth doing. We regret not paying a bit more and staying somewhere different.

Room Tip: Avoid room 111 and rooms overlooking the alley

We went for a family meal on August bank holiday Monday.
The food was excellent and the helpful service by the staff could not be faulted, After going to Weatherspoons in Bridgnorth it made such a nice change to see a pub in the same chain could be so different.
Perhaps the staff from Bridgnorth should visit to see how you should treat customers.
We would go back agian if we were in the area.

This is an old hotel, which used to be called the Britannia. I stayed here recently and found the room clean and spacious. Tea and Coffee provided and an excellent power shower. The bed was really comfortable and everything was very clean. Good food downstairs in JD Wetherspoon`s. I will be staying in this hotel if available in the future. A pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front of the hotel to look out over the River Severn.

Central location over looking the river. Rooms very clean. Staff could not be more helpful. Good value. Typical Wetherspoons. You know what you will be getting. Noise from pub below not an issue although we did close windows as expected the main road would be noisy. Fan provided. The bed on the narrow side but comfortable. Good value meals which were served quickly. Parking can be an issue as limited space but reception advised where to double park.

We stayed here as we were visiting family and needed a reasonably priced room. We regularly eat at Wetherspoons and had heard of the hotels so thought we would give it a try. The price was the thing that made as book as it was by far the cheapest place to stay and had good reviews.

The check in was quick and pleasant. We were given a permit for our car as you need one to leave your car in the car park. We were very pleasantly surprised with the room which was on the first floor facing the front of the hotel and overlooking the main road and car park. The room was quite small with what can only be described as a very small double bed! There was a large bathroom with a very powerful shower which was lovely. The decor of the bedroom was in keeping with wetherspoons and quite gothic but modern. There was a great selection of tea and coffee and even bottled water. The television was small but adequate had a freeview. Overall we were really impressed with the room as a whole in terms of its decor, comfort and cleanliness.

The only issue we had with the room was the noise. We were woken several times in the night by noise from the road and also the glass bins being emptied very early in the morning! The housekeeping also knocked on our door whilst we were still in bed in the morning around nine am and check out was not until eleven. We had not put the sign on the door asking the room to be cleaned and had to ask them to come back later. Some of the noise, like that, from the road is not the fault of the hotel so maybe ask for a room at the back of the hotel if you are not a heavy sleeper.

Overall we were very impressed with the room for the price we paid and the service we received both as guests and also whilst eating in the pub. We had our evening meal and breakfast in the pub and both were excellent. If you are looking for a comfortable room for a great price then we would definitely recommend this hotel.
