“Our new year away 2013”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

We booked this hotel in Jan 2013 for our regular new year away trip !! when i confirmed the booking in Dec i was told we had the superior room for our stay £70 p.n.b/b, we arrived on the 30th Dec and as usual parking was a issue, the hotel advised of a public car park 100yds away but that was £7 per day . we found a parking place just over the English bridge just behind the seven stars pub (belle vue ) for £2.50 per day. 5 mins walk from hotel !!! on arrival back at reception the bar and restaurant area looked modern and clean and the staff were excellent we went to the room and it didn't live up to the superior rating we had expected it was very tired and ready for a makeover (a local said it is to be done in 2014 ? ) the headboard was dusty with please dust me wrote on it, crumbs under the bed,, tea stains on the radiator, and no tea bags for us !!! the bathroom was clean but again in need of attention . and the room was above the bar !!!!!!!!!!!!! ok on new years eve you can expect a bit of noise like we have had in previous years !! but to feel like the DJ is in your wardrobe is a bit to much. and at 01.30 when he says its time to play the last track you dont expect a 15 minute version of Rod Stewart "do think i am sexy " played !!!!!!!! even the night before the locals jokes in the bar could be heard !! breakfast overall was good we had to wait quite a while because nobody knew we were waiting new years day breakfast not as nice but we understand staff
pressures can be a issue !!!!!!!!!!!! Shrews bury is a great place to be for New years Eve day or night lots of real ale pubs 2 for 1 (meal) pubs, and the locals are friendly Thank you Shrewsbury for a good Time (and three points for preston north end )

Stayed here for a night over Christmas and was very disappointed. The room was tiny with barely enough room to move. The bed had no head board and therefore made sitting up in bed (the room was that small there was nowhere else too sit) very uncomfortable. The room had a window which misted up with condensation, and if you wanted it open then you had to endure the awful smell coming from their kitchens. The walls had some kind of water marks running down the wall....no idea what from, The skirting had never seen a duster let alone a hoover. The toilet flush gave you a great workout as you had to pump it a few times before it flushed. The shower had mould in it and the extractor fan was covered in dust, but don't know why because it didn't work. This place would be fine if you were paying £40 a night but at £75 I think its a bit steep.

This was our third Christmas at cromwells always had excellent service but I'm afraid this time was very disappointing our starters arrived after 1 hour and 10 mins followed by Christmas meals with very crunchy sprouts. Not all of us had starters so obviously were very hungry. The manager did bring over complementary olives for three of us who didn't have a starter but felt this could of been done for all of us has the wait was so long. The bar was very busy and very noisy which meant the bar users were invading our space which made it very uncomfortable when trying to enjoy our food when it finally arrived. The staff were friendly and the Manager did apologise several times and did offer us free tea or coffee which we declined. Previous years we had a fabulous time and the food was excellent, but sadly neither this year came up to the usual standard.

Very nice room with 4 Poster bed. Had to change rooms as work being done. This was ok but felt a little that we were in the way as we were shooed out of our "upgrade" room (as our booked room was having work done and was unavailable) the second day as the owner now wanted to do work in this room. Hmmmm! Besides this little bump the breakfast was nice. We had a lunch and dinner in the hotel over the three days and it was all excellent and well priced. The hotel is so well located for shopping and eating outand is well priced and we will stay again. Room 1 was the room we booked and we slept well here. The room we were in the first night was noisy because of road noise.

Myself and my girlfriend decided to spend a night at this charming hotel in the city centre. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly from the minute we arrived and the hotel was exactly what we wanted - charachter property and the four poster room was gorgeous. After wandering around this historic city, we decided to avail of the restaurant for our evening meal and were not dissappointed. Food was fantastic and could not be faulted. Compliments to the kitchen staff and chef.
However, the bathroom facilites were below par (room #5) The sink, and shower had zero drainage which made basic showering etc impossible. i.e. the shower tray could not absorb any water after 5 seconds and completely overflowed. So by the time the water was warm enough to enter, it was time to vacate!!! Tried to use the sink for basic hair washing also and this proved impossible.

All in all, a beautiful hotel in a lovely city, gorgeous food in the restaurant and friendly and helpful staff but please can you rectify your plumming as I'm sure this will deter future residents from staying. We would have loved a shower!!!!

First, lunch was delicious. Farm to table, yummy food and a great patio, especially if you get some sun. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The bedroom part, not so much. We were put in the hobbit room (#3). Thank goodness they had caution tape over the doorway so we didn't slam our noggins on them every time we walked through them. My dreams of soaking in a bathtub seen in the pictures was dashed when I saw the cubicle shower, although the pressure was excellent. Forget about sleeping in, they blast the bar music pretty early and there is absolutely no sound proofing. We might as well have been sleeping in the street with the traffic noise. There was at least an inch gap under the door.

Breakfast ends at 9:30, which would have been nice to know since we missed it. I would have probably given one more star had we gotten to taste the food again.

Wouldn't stay here again, unfortunately.

Room Tip: not Room #3
