“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

Visited this resturant recently with a friend. The food was really something else . We didnt have a starter or pudding and to be honest prob would nt of had room for any. The burgers are very very tasty served with a nice side salad and chips. My friend had the sweet potatoes fries yummy !!The lady near us had a ceasar salad and it looked so fresh and tasty. Staff polite and efficient and prices good. Will go again and highly recommend that if you go you wont be disappointed

“Fancied a real burger - didn't disappoint”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

My wife and I visited on Thursday evening and there was a cosy atmosphere. We were greeted by the barmaid/waitress warmly. Whilst we were choosing our drinks we were advised that if ordering a meal it may be a wait of approx 30 minutes, which didn't concern us as we Brits tend to rush our nights out so we were shown to the dining room. The decor was tasteful and bright. Our starter sharing platter arrived piping hot in only 20 minutes it was tasty. Our 2nd drink was delivered to the table, by the only member of staff on view. She managed the evening extremely well. Once our starter was cleared it was only another 10 minutes before the mains arrived - Tex mex Burger and Cheddar and Bacon Burger, served with side salad, potato fries and sweet potato fries (a must) they were again hot and crispy. The burgers out of this world.
Any busier and I think it could have been off putting for some with only one front of house, but if you want fast food there's always McDonalds - if you want quality The Old Bell.
All in all a lovely evening and the only visible member of staff made us feel very welcome and was managing the pub with quet aplomb.

“We were made to feel welcome and the food tasted great !”

I went to the Old Bell on Sunday with my sons, we were greeted well and the menu was explained to us and I was informed that the main dishes may be a bit big for the kids so we ordered the following pork rib burger with bacon onion rings fries and side garnish of salad which 2 of my son's shared the lady brought an extra plate over and was most helpful my youngest son had the Mac n cheese which was substantial and tasted great even found a bay leaf in there so home made to be sure , I had the Philly cheese steak in a fresh sub roll , it too tasted great. All in all the food was really nice it took a while to come out from the kitchen but when it did it was great. I did notice they are hiring chefs at the moment so I will let them off the slightly slow service from order to table we finished off our meals with 2 blueberry cheesecakes between the 4 of us lovely and home made too. Kids loved it and we will no doubt be visiting again

“A total shambles”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

The owner was the rudest person I have ever come across in a pub/restaurant. She did not say please, thankyou or excuse me once, it took 5 mins just to pour a pint of squash! Nearly every table got the wrong food, the poor waitess was doing her best but the owner was not putting the table numbers on the orders. She even argued with the next table that it was thier fault that the order was wrong. When we did get the correct meals the food was just about OK, but I think the crab cakes had been through the microwave, she said not. They were soggy, the filling was Ok just about. My partners meal was like something you get on a childrens menu, chicken in batter with a tiny dish of chiili dip bought from a supermarket. The lady stood next to me waited for 20 mins just to get her bill. Im afraid I spat my dummy out big style,I had been working all day at a food show and was tired and hungry and just wanted a decent meal,we went to the wrong place!!!! Even the locals said she is always rude to everyone and they didnt know why they went there , says it all really.

“The Old Bell Shrewsbury”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

Many years ago this welcoming pub used to be my local but I moved. Since then it has been taken over a few times with varying degrees of success. Yesterday I arranged to have lunch there with a couple of friends and I have to say I was utterly delighted with the experience. The great thing for me was the menu; proper American food cooked from fresh on the premises makes a pleasant change from the microwaved stuff you get in most pubs and at a price that makes me want to go back. I ordered a New York Style Philly Cheese Steak and I wasn't disappointed - think 'Man Versus Food' it was utterly delicious and for £6.99 I didn't feel hungry until well into the evening. My partner ordered Tennesee BBQ Pulled Pork again utterly delicious. I don't feel I can give the Old Bell a 5 rating as I didn't stay there overnight but if the B and B side is anything like the warm welcome, stylish surroundings and a belter of a menu I am sure you won't be disappointed. Question is would I go back? You bet your bottom I'll be going back just to work my way through the menu! So impressed was I that I told all my mates on Facebook to get themselves down there and my partner is trying to organise a works meal there. Thumbs up from me, but don't take my word for it, try it for yourself. Angela x
