Sat 23rd was the annual Christmas fair in the Abbey all sorts of stalls the place was buzzing with activity and local folk. Beautiful -The windows in the church are well worth looking at and there are some modern ones among them too. Don't forget to look for the old pulpit across the road too....

Full of history right up to present day. Helpful volunteer guides. We visited for the connections with Ellis Peters/Parteger and the Cadfael novels. While there, discovered the Wilfred Owen link with a interestingly shaped monument in the grounds complete with a quote from one of his poems.

This large abbey is full of history and atmosphere, with lots to see.
This is the home of the fictional monk, Brother Cadfael, from the mystery novels by Ellis Peters, and one can really imagine the character living and working here.
We visited one hour before Sunday evensong, around 3pm, and were lucky to hear the choir rehearsing their music for the service......, a real treat!

Just beautiful! Not to be missed. Lovely ladies at the desk too.
Filled with historical relics - the founder of the abbey was a close relative of William the Conqueror we learned.
