Remember the stories of Ellis Peters and brother Cadfael?
This building is so stunning and is not to be missed. Sometimes we are all drawn to having a couple minutes of peace and contemplation away from the hussle and bussle of modern day life. The Abbey stands the test of time, being over 800 years old, and constructed before half of the "world" as we know it now was discovered. The Friends of the Abbey (staff) are always happy to stop and fill the very welcomed visitor, so don't be scared to ask.

A lady welcomed us and asked if we were interested in her telling us a bit about the abbey's history. She was excellent and spoke in the first person about e.g. Henry 8's men destoying our monastic buildings. She also pointed out the significant features of the stained glass windows.

This is steeped with history, the architecture is varied, the old village which surrounds it is for the best part intact.
Look out for the flood marks inside the abbey and the old pictures depicting the last great Shrewsbury flood. I am glad I missed that one.

A very interesting place to visit as it gives the visitor a very thorough b/ground into not only the religious history of the area but the general history of this area of England. We found it very interesting
