This was a very nice hotel where we had a very excellent dinner. The hotel had such a narrow driveway that we were told to pull into the parking area across the street, turn around, and approach it from the other angle. We actually tried to book a room for the next night so we could have another excellent dinner, but they were fully booked.

Minor negatives out of the way first!
The liver parfait starter is served annoyingly (like many restaurants ) with a mean sized toast or in this case large crisp. There's never enough to finish the parfait. Secondly, the child menu burger was vastly larger than the adult mains! Finally ( and I appreciate that this is a very petty quibble), why are chips served in those ridiculous mini frying cages? You only throw them on the plate anyway.

As I say all the above are minor issues and probably peculiar to myself. The restaurant is well turned out (and with excellent parking across the street). The venue is modestly sized but with a real air of quality. The serving staff, although very young, appear to be a rare breed who genuinely want to please customers. They were attentive, polite and hospitable.

The kids ordered salmon and Welsh rarebit starters and we both went for the liver parfait. All were delicious and plates cleaned off. Kids mains were the aforementioned burger and grilled chicken. The chicken in particular went down well from a generally food fussy child. Grown ups went for ling and sole respectively. The ling was appropriately meaty and satisfying. The sole was finished off without any fuss. Three of us plumped for the chocolate mouse and one for the elderflower delice- a lovely punctuation to a very enjoyable supper.

We'd happily recommend and will visit again.

We went last night for my birthday and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I started with the parmeasan mouse and my hubby had the crab and red mullet terrine (pictures below). We had g&ts to start in the bar as they had an impressive list and stuck with wine with our food again great selection of wine too. Main courses were amazing too - rib eye and plaice we cooked well and again the presentation was exquisite. Staff were friendly, professional and a special mention to Igor who looked after us. We have eaten all over the world and would put this into the category of great dining experience - atmosphere, food, wine and even layout of the restaurant were all exceptional. Well done - we will be back!

We like the Lion dining room. There is lots of space between tables with white tablecloths that together present a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere,an experience that is disappearing in many other locations.

The food is very good, we had a three course lunch, joined by friends, and all the courses were not only good but offered something a little different if required
