Arriving late for a one night stay in Shrewsbury with meetings in the city centre the next morning the Prince Rupert offers an excellent city centre location.

With valet parking the problem of where to put the car is taken care of upon arrival, enabling one to prepare for next days agenda and catch up on as much sleep as possible before the sun rises.

Would thoroughly recommend the Prince Rupert to all business travellers heading to Shrewsbury. The staff running the hotel are all friendly, efficient and the values of the owning family shine through.

For all runners, you can find a super morning run along the river which you can reach only 30 seconds from the hotel, with views across the city providing an inspiring start to the day.

Next time business takes me to Shrewsbury it will be at the Prince Rupert I stay (pending availability).

Room Tip: Standard rooms offer great value for money when travelling alone on business. Clean, comfortable bed...

I can only comment on the restaurant as we only visited for lunch. There were four of us, we hadn't made a reservation but that wasn't a problem even though they had several Christmas parties going on. The greeting was friendly and we were offered a lovely table in setting which meant we could talk without disturbing the parties. Lunch was lovely, we all enjoyed our meals and weren't hurried at all. Highly recommend this venue for lunch or somewhere to meet for coffee. So many places in the town centre are rather noisy and I hate fast food so this worked really well for us. Highly recommend it.

I am delighted that these guests thoroughly enjoyed their recent festive lunch with us following their visit to The Royalist Restaurant at The Prince Rupert Hotel. Our Head Chef Justin Fenwick-Scott and his kitchen team will be very pleased to read these positive comments about the cuisine. I hope that these guests will choose us again for lunch the next time they visit Shrewsbury; until then we look forward to welcoming them back…

Location fantastic in this lovely city. Lots to see and excellent shopping with many small independents. Staff all friendly and helpful. However got the feeling we got the last room available - very tired decor, furniture seen better days and a damp patch/ hole in ceiling above the shower. Room at end of corridor with only one key that fitted - not even the master key worked, no problem when we had the key but at one point the cleaners had not taken back to reception so had to wait for it to be hunted down. An inconvenience only and front desk staff very helpful and apologetic.lovely old building - v creaky floor! Would return but would ask for a better room though we had no problem with noise as described by others.

Wonderful receptionist we left our bags at the hotel before checking in so we had hassle free shopping . The room we had 303 had a sloping floor but this is all part of the charm of this hotel. Room was spotlessly clean some parts were a bit dated but that is all part of staying in a real hotel and not what I class a motel no two things are the same. Breakfast was very relaxed and the food was fab especially the scrambled eggs tea in silver teapots what a luxury no teabag in a cup here.fantastic rate from last minute.com. Well worth a stay and Shrewsbury is a different shopping experience.

I stayed at the Prince Rupert Hotel a few years ago and this time I returned with my husband for a pre- Christmas weekend break. We were welcomed by helpful, attentive staff and upgraded to a suite. The room was very atmospheric, in keeping with the age and history of the hotel and stylishly furnished. The bed was most comfortable and the room very quiet for a town centre hotel. We enjoyed delicious meals in both the Royalist restaurant and the less formal Chambers, both served by friendly waiting staff. The breakfasts were good, with a varied help-yourself buffet as well as tasty hot dishes freshly prepared and served to the table. The location of the hotel is perfect for shopping as it is so close to the historic streets and ideal for wandering round and seeking interesting shops. We will definitely choose the Prince Rupert again when we are in the area for its relaxed ambience, friendly staff and good location.

Stayed here last week and after having to change my room 3 times as first was really noisy from lift, 2nd time I was given a room already occupied! 3rd room was a twin room and in need of modernising especially in bathroom. Damp on ceiling, water stop start, sinkholes rotten. The staff were good and breakfast ok. I would not pay the full price for a room here as I would be very annoyed.
