Stayed in the 12 century mansion room. We were sent back in time! 4 posters bed, roll top bath and bags of rustic character. Stayed on dinner, bed and breakfast deal. Staff were great and with valet parking and a city centre location. It's all good.

This hotel is in a beautiful, historic building in the heart of Shrewsbury. Very convenient location and valet parking is brilliant. Sadly the interior is looking tired, particularly the bar area. We had a suite far away along some very scruffy, dingy corridors with scruffy carpets and cheap nasty fittings like the internal doors. Once inside rooms were good, especially the light sitting room. Bed was extremely comfortable and linen clean. The bathroom was poor. The shower was no more than a dribble from a sort of shampoo spray. Breakfast was fantastic. The choice of food was excellent both from the buffet and hot food served to order. Waitress service was excellent.

The hotel is in a terrific location for the town...as it is a very old hotel it may be charming for some..just found it a bit dull and dark to be honest.

The staff were friendly enough...valet parking meant you could just leave the car and it would be brought back for you...great as parking is a nightmare in this town.

Breakfast was good...nicely cooked to order and a reasonable buffet for continental...not the best ever but fine.

Must admit my bathroom was pretty poor in that it was just tatty for the money paid I don't feel it was up to scratch but this area all the hotels and B&B's do overcharge IMO for what you get.

Not sure I'd stay here again to be honest...but then again if you want to stay in town not many better alternatives.

There is some charm associated with this horel, and location in Shrewsbury is good. On the other hand, nothing is really far away in Shrewsbury...The hotel is a bit old and could use a renovation. Beds are nice, bathrooms need improvement and rooms are on the small side. Staff is very friendly and helpful though!

Our actual stay at the hotel was pleasant enough but we were shocked to find that they had charged us twice! Once when I booked on the net, and again when we checked out and my husband was asked to pay. At first they said that one of the payments was annulled and would show in our next credit card statements. We wrote to the owner/managing director who did not reply. When no refund appeared next month on our subsequent credit card statements we again contacted them and after a lot of argument they discovered that they had charged us twice. We are still awaiting the refund.

There are two positive attributes about the Prince Rupert Hotel. First, the happy accident of its location cannot be beat: it is right in the heart of everything but also on a quiet little pedestrian street with cute shops and cafes. And second: I'm not sure what was so "enhanced" about the "enhanced" bathrooms, but they do feature recently updated facilities, are very clean, and the showers work well. And I should add that the hotel's main toilets next to the reception area are cute and well-kept with nicely scented products. So, if you're really keen on using the bathroom, this might be a good choice for you. Unfortunately, the joy ends there. From the minute we walked in the door the reception staff was curt, unfriendly, unwelcoming, and they seemed frazzled and disoriented. Once in the room, the decor is passable and the beds soft enough, but the walls and floors are so thin that if someone is conversing down the hallway it seems as though they are actually in your room. This presented a real issue with the additional construction project going on right outside our window. The included cold breakfast was astoundingly awful: the croissants tasted like they'd been bought at the Spar a week ago. I did not risk eating anything “fresh” like the pale, wan-looking “fruit,” nor did I attempt the cooked items, as I was already suspicious of the food quality (and the surly waitress never came around anyway after dropping off a cup of weak coffee). Additionally, it is bizarre that the hotel does not offer its guests free wifi, especially at its price point. If you just need to lay your head down for a night and want something above hostel quality (with the added price tag), the PRH will work fine for you; I was definitely relieved we stayed only one night.

Ideal location but the hotel decor and rooms are old and tired, needs a make over badly. I think the shower in the room was actually used by Prince Rupert himself!! Have stayed in better hotels for a lot less money. The staff could do with a refresher in customer service skills too, I overheard a conversation of a customer trying to book in, very 1970's like the hotel.
