“Very Nice”

First time to the Prince Rupert, got upgraded to a suite, not sure I'd have paid full price for the suite but it was nice with a 4 poster. Good central location in Shrewsbury and very friendly staff although the valet changed my settings on the seat of my car and parked it on an outside car park quite a way from the hotel.

Stayed one night Saturday 11th May, the majority of the hotel is very old which is noticeable with the wonky walls and floors but this all adds to the character of the place, all staff were very kind and even gave us an anniversary card which was. Nice touch. We had Prince Rupert 's suite which was beautiful and exactly as it shows in the photos, gowns to use and lovely toiletries to use, flat screen tele on the wall, which did not ruin the authenticity of the room as small and discreet on the wall, coffee making facilities with biscuits too. The room had a chandelier in centre, a very old chez langue & the bed was a beautiful four poster with big heavy drapes and nice soft bedding, however it was "Old" and because it was old it creaked at every movement waking each other up at every turn. The Bathroom again was lovely and very old with beautiful wood paneling all around it and again with a wonky floor to add to the character. We had dinner in the Royalist restaurant and the food was Devine, the hot smoked salmon and beetroot purée with beetroot sorbet was amazing as was the chicken mousse, sirloin with chunky chips and peppercorn with brandy sauce, and dessert was deconstructed lemon meringue which was truely al a carte and was excellent! Breakfast was a huge choice again just right for the morning after.
Thank you

by the one way system, archaic look and valet parking. This hotel, dating from around the Tudor era, was very comfortable, the heating and hot water system coped well - not always the case with older buildings and their plumbing systems. Although there was some noise in the evening from a neighbouring pub, it ceased promptly at 11.30 pm. The location in the centre of old Shrewsbury is excellent for exploring the city and the surrounding beautiful countryside, although none of the rooms we occupied had a view to speak of. We also ate at the hotel on two evenings and the food and service were excellent.

Last minute booking for a night away. Had twin room with enhanced bathroom (no doubles available). Room very small, tired looking and overlooked a fire escape. Bathroom was dreadful, shower head wouldn't adjust and water ran all over the floor. Could hear a lot of noise from room above. The part of the hotel with the 'suites' looked lovely and full of character, valet parking good and staff were friendly but not worth £115.

Great location in a quiet historic side street in the heart of Shrewsbury. The double room (3rd floor) I had was pretty small with only a tiny wardrobe but okay for a couple of nights stay. I could hear a bit of noise from other rooms so the sound proofing is not great and the room looked straight into a large office block about 10 metres away which wasn't ideal (but at least I had someone to wave to in the morning). The food in the Royalist Restaurant was good with fast service although my colleague found the vegitarian choice limited. The bar was okay but lacked atmosphere, problem solved as there are a couple of quite good pubs close by. The valet parking solves any problems trying to locate parking spaces yourself and the car was always available at the requested times.

We stayed here for our honeymoon 40 years ago and returned for our 40th. The staff were very welcoming and the valet parking was a bonus. The Prince Rupert suite was in the oldest part of the building, wonky floors and walls but authentic. Sadly we could not climb in to the roll top bath! service in the hotel and Chambers Restaurant was excellent and the food was well presentedand cooked to perfection. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: If you are less than agile, or 6ft tall, choose a room with a shower.

An interesting hotel, the bedroom accommodation allocated to me was small, with thin walls and draughty windows, though I believe the older parts of the building had bigger and better bedrooms.

Breakfast came with an attentive waitress service and food was of good quality. In the evening we ate in one of the restaurants and the food was of reasonable.

This is a hard hotel to rate. "Average" seems harsh but it is closer to "Good" than "Very Good".
