“Watch your parking...........”
Reviewed December 29, 2009

We (my wife and inlaws) stayed at the "Morgans @ The Exchange Hotel" just for 1 night on a shopping trip. When we got there we were very happy with the location, we couldn't have picked a better place. But when we booked (by phone) I asked about parking, I was told that parking was no problem, anyway we parked outside and got our bags out, we were then assigned a different rooms to the ones that we had booked. Our room was room number 2, It was a big room but not a double bed it had twin beds and in a great viewing position if you like to people watch, but it was a cold room. Our inlaws room was number 4, that room was a bit smaller but it had a double bed, (and smelt of smoke).
(Back to the parking). We left the girls there to unpack and me and my father-in-law went to park the car, we couldn't find anywhere to park for mor than 2hrs, after driving around for over 1hr I started to get anoyed, so the next time we passed our hotel I dropped my father-in-law off and I carried on looking for a parking place. I did find a 24hr car park close to the railway station where the main post office vans were parked.
We met people on holiday who know this Hotel and told us that the food was excellent, so on our night that we stayed there, we were looking forward to trying the food ourselves, but was told that they were not doing food because of a private party. Not a worry because shrewsbury has some of the finest resterants.
Back to the hotel, the beds were low, and me being XXL or FB, (fat B). found it hard to get out of bed for a pee, LOL. But the good points were the staff, 100%, and try the Breakfast, very good. We would stay there again but this time save my self 1Hr 40mins driving around looking for a parking place..

It is unfortunate that upon arrival we were assigned a different room to the one we booked, we actually got room 6 which was really clostrophobic, this wouldn't have been such an issue but the large skylight right above the bed made the room cold and drafty and the heating kept turning off. The fact that we couldn't close the skylight made it feel like we were sleeping in the open air, not a good feeling in November !! The fact that there were no windows looking out did make it feel closed in and not sure of exit if there were a fire on the landing. The room was small and the bed touched almost 3 walls. We did have a small kitchnette and bathroom was ok but again, the shower was not very hot so you can imagine, taking a cold shower and then dressing in a cold drafty room brrrrrrr really not good for November. Apart from all that though, the location is good and the place in general is nice and modern. The only other thing which lets this hotel down is the parking as the carparks nearby only offer only 2 hours parking, it is probably best to get the train as it's not too far from the station.

With a couple of little tweaks we would use this hotel again but would definitely make sure that we didn't get the room with the skylight - especially in winter - freeeezing !!

Shame that it slightly spoilt our experience because Shrewsbury is a lovely place to visit with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.
