“Lovely Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

I treated my partner to a weekend for his birthday and I could have not chosen better.
The receptionist and restaurant manager are delightful and really helpfull.
The room was big, neutrally decorated so very relaxing atmosphere. The all hotel is really well cleaned, which also made a difference.
Breakfast was really good quality and tasty specially the cooked food.
The restaurant prepare really well presented food but I would say that the best are desserts as the rest although is of good quality, was not perfect for the level of the place.
If you find an offer don't think twice!!!

We have just enjoyed a two night stay at Fishmore Hall combining business with a trip to South West Shropshire. Fishmore Hall is a stylishly renovated small hotel, with a relaxing lounge for afternoon tea (which was excellent) and small beauty spa. The young staff and management were charming and helpful.

There are one or two niggles however, The rooms are very well appointed with lovely bathrooms but the bedside lighting is poor, the wall lights are a little high and the LED reading light is incredibly dim. LED has come on a lot since these were installed. The other thing was the choice at dinner. Fishmore's food is very good indeed but with a small menu to choose from I was surprised to find the same menu on offer two nights running, and even identical canapes presented with pre dinner drinks. Perhaps we just hit the chef's night off for the second evening. It was delicious but certainly could annoy a vegetarian who would have an even more limited choice. Breakfast was very good indeed. All in all a good find.

Overall, the weekend we spent at Fishmore Hall was a pleasent experience, but it was not good value for money. The staff were marvelous, very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very average, but clean, comfortable and warm. We ate in the Brasserie on the first night and although we enjoyed the food and wine, the portions were very very small ! The second night we ate in the a la carte restaurant. A very good choice on the menu, and the food was good, but again portions were very small. The worst part about the meal was the wine choice. We had to make 4 choices before we came across one they actually had in stock ! The waitress said "if you choose the house red, we have plenty of that !" Hmmmmm ... not really very impressive ! On both nights they didn't leave the wine on your table, but took it away to a side table, which often happens in restaurants, but the annoying thing was we had to keep asking for a top up as the staff were not attentive enough. Breakfast was included in the price we paid, but again, the "bread basket" portion wise was appauling. We even overheard another guest complaining that this was their 3rd visit to Fishmore Hall and still the breakfast was poor ! The porridge was very good though !

Make no mistake this hotel is of a very good standard. It is immaculately decorated in a contemporary style with lots of nice touches to make you feel very special. The food is of a comparable standard if a touch on the pricey side. On a wet Wednesday in March there were plenty of customers dining in both the bar and restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyable.

We had a friendly welcome to Fishmore Hall on a cold Monday afternoon. When we were shown to our room our hearts sunk, as we walked up the path to the 'garage' - room 1, but we couldn't have been more wrong! A smart mini suite perfectly adapted for a disabled user but with stylish and comfortable touches for anyone. Lounge with cuddle chairs, a lovely big bed and ensuite wet room- ideal. Two flat screen tv's one in the bedroom area and one in the lounge, all needs met with guest facilities.

The restaurant gave us first class cuisine, but I would choose the bar menu again rather than the a la carte, for the portion sizes for the latter were too small, although perfect in taste. Presentation of the meals was excellent for both, attention to detail, perfect.

Took the opportunity of a Living Social deal for this break, but if a special occasion calls for it I would combine it with spa treatments for a self indulgent treat.

Room Tip: Room 1, for anyone with mobility issues, but no bath here if you wanted to have a soak.

I chose this hotel on the basis of previous ratings. Yes, it is good, but the food is a bit over-priced for the quantities served - we knew the prices, but not the sizes! First night we chose the six-course taster menu (which came, too, with three free amuse-bouche), and splashed out on the offered six recommended wine accompaniments. Even so, despite cleaning every plate, we were only barely satisfied by the TINY helpings (and we are not really gluttons!). The presentation IS very impressive, though.

After leaving it too late to book our choice of restaurants in the town for Sunday night (do book early!), we opted to try the only-available Bar Menu for our second night - to be fair, we did know in advance that the chief chef has his night off on Sundays. We chose fish and chips - at £14.95 each. Presentation was again excellent (on a slate slab, instead of newspaper!) but consisted of just three cod fingers in sloppy batter and nine "hand cut"(!!) chips, with an artistic smear of mushy-pea-paste and an egg-cup of tartar sauce. They didn't bat an eyelid when I requested salt and vinegar - OK, I'm a Northerner - but overall I get much better quality and quantity at our local chippy, and for £4.50. Without waitress service, admitted.

Our room (a 'Superior', number 5) was fine, with a large black-slate wet-room shower in the en-suite and a south-aspect view over the car park to the town roofs, a mile beyond. The only minor accommodation gripe was that the radiator was only on for a very short period, on a chilly weekend. The views in all directions from the hotel's hilly location are nice, the location is quiet, but if eating dinner out, in town, with alcohol, you'd need to book taxis (unless it is a rare warm summer evening).

So, we wanted a memorable weekend for our 40th, and it scored on that level. But a little more generous helping of food would have better justified the price I'd chosen to pay. The ingredients alone can't cost them that much, can they? The quality is in the superb artistry of their chef. A true case of style over substance, then.

Room Tip: What you can save through an agency booking, spend instead on a Superior room. Not massive, they'...

It may be the best hotel in Ludlow and it must be the most expensive. Our room was comfortable, quiet and had a nice view but was small. There was no safe, the paint was peeling from the window frame and the heating did not come on until 9am so it was cold first thing. The bathroom was spacious but the shower was not very powerful. We only ate breakfast there, which was good but took a long time to serve on saturday and sunday mornings. The 'fine dining' style even extended to the fruit platter - beautifully presented but an egg cup would have held all the fruit. Not worth the wait! By the way we had excellent meals at The Unicorn, Koo (Japanese) and The Clive.
