We had so much fun here--Helen is just delightful and her mother and her mother's friend are just precious! The room was clean and comfortable and the food was really good in the bar. I would recommend this hotel to everyone and would definitely stay again!

Spent one night with 3 friends on our way to a driving holiday in Wales. Weather absolutely terrible, which was a real shame.

It's not boutique chic at all - decor is very traditional (dare I say "old fashioned?") but very clean.and after all, it comes down to personal taste. Rooms plain with somewhat dated bathrooms, but perfectly functional and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and piping hot.

We paid £60 single occupancy, and were very pleased for the price. Helen was welcoming and service all round was very efficient. We would like to return in (hopefully) better weather - I would only say that if you come for the local culinary delights, avoid Sunday evenings as there is very little open.

Thoroughly recommend The Cliffe Hotel, however.

The hotel is located in a remarkably quiet & rural spot just ten minutes from the town centre. Our room, room 1, had a limited view of the castle, slightly obscured by trees. The room was particularly spacious, simply furnished and decorated but with an enormous amount of storage space and all 'mod cons' inlcuding tea making facilities and modern bathroom fittings. In common with the rest of the hotel it was also very clean. On the several evenings we used the bar, we found it to be informal and relaxed. All the staff we had the pleasure of meeting were friendly and eager to please, as was Helen, the proprietress. Despite the informality, it is obviously run thoroughly efficiently, and we will definitely return to sample the Cliffe's hospitality when next in the area.

Just to mention that I am very fussy and complain if things are not as they should be:

We stayed at the Cliffe Hotel over the Bank holiday weekend. The hotel is situated a pleasant 10 minute walk from Ludlow. Helen, the owner and her staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs.
After a busy day we decided to eat at the hotel, the menu was varied and well priced. The food was excellent quality and beautifully cooked, so we decided to eat in again.

The full English breakfast menu was locally sourced (and healthily cooked) (no snotty eggs of grease in sight). Cereals, yogurt, fruit and fresh juices were also on offer. A vegetarian option was also available. The coffee was fresh and excellent quality (I am also a coffee snob). the waitress was attentive and ensured we had enough toast and if we wanted more coffee /tea etc.

The room was spotless, modern, light and airey, we occupied one of the family rooms, where a Zed bed was added. There was enough room for the 3 of us.

In the evening we sat in the bar had our evening meal and relaxed,

We travel regularly around the UK. The Cliffe Hotel is fantastic value for money and should be more than the 2 stars. Would I recommend the Cliffe hotel - without a doubt, would i stay there again - absolutely. Was I paid to wite this review by the Cliffe Hotel - No

Room Tip: speak to the Hotel they will advise you

We have just returned from a lovely short break in Ludlow. The Cliffe Hotel is ideally placed and only a 10 minute scenic walk over the river into Ludlow. Helen and her staff were all warm and welcoming. The freshly cooked meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) were all delicious and we felt very relaxed in the bar with other guests and local residents in the evening. Our room was clean and well equipped. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to family and friends and plan to return to explore the surrounding area.
Ludlow is a charming market town and an ideal base for a short break in the stunning Shropshire countryside.

Room Tip: Look on the website and then ring Helen and book directly with the hotel.

stayed for 2 nights in room no. 1 which is a large double. very clean and well presented with a modern wall mounted t.v., a setee and small table, and plenty of storage room. the bathroom is clean and modern with a lovely walk in shower. the bar is large for a hotel this size and the bar seating area is big too, with direct access to the large garden. Booking was on a B&B basis but we had our evening meals here as well, and all the food was lovely. I do not hesitate in recommending this hotel to everybody.

This is more like a 3 or 4 star Hotel!!!We stayed here on the night of my wife's birthday on the way to South Wales. We were warmly greeted by Helen the Proprietor who showed us to a lovely spotlessly clean room.A quietly situated hotel just outside Ludlow. We booked in early afternoon and walked into the town over the bridge and up a short but steep hill easily accomplished in 10 minutes. The town is delightful, full of character, a great daily market, lovely buildings, some really nice eating places and good pubs- try "The Church "for real ales and good local produce. We then went to Chan's Thai restaurant on Market street, opposite The Globe Bar for our evening meal, lovely food.Back to the hotel (downhill this time!!) very safe walking at night for a nightcap in the lovely bar with Helen and Geoff.Breakfast was a grease free lovely meal consisting of local sausages and bacon and a lovely home made potato rosti with the usual accompaniments served with a smile by Lizzie ,Geoff's daughter. We checked out at 10,30 am and they kindly let us leave the car in their car park for another visit into town. A lovely stay ,we shall return.Thank you

Room Tip: Ask Helen- room 5 was lovely
