“Stay an extra night”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Foodies planning a stay in Ludlow to try the famous restaurants could stay in the very comfortable Dinham Hall, well placed between Mr Underhill's and the main restaurant area in the old town. Stay an extra night and eat in the hotel's own restaurant; the food is good. People who complain of being locked out should examine their room's key ring - ours had a front door key as one of the bunch. We stayed in room 3 (Wrights) which has excellent views towards the hills West of the town, across the river Teme. We enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in this beautiful building for just one night at the end if June to maximise our enjoyment of the Jools Holland concert at the next door castle.
First lets deal with the "faults" that have been referred to earlier.
1) staff- on arrival at 2pm we were rightly told check in was at 3pm and to come back later. Whilst fine a better alternative might have been to offer a complimentary tea or coffee on the terrace. Other similarly priced small hotels do this.
2) unfriendly and inexperienced staff? Those we spoke to we're young and perhaps early in their working life but were all very friendly. This is nit a large chain and there is no in house training college. am always delighted to see local people employed in such venues not the usual mix of cloned foreign service staff.
3) unclean and poorly equipped rooms. Ours was a superior room on the top floor and was immaculate. My wife commented on the large mirror having sockets adjacent making this perfect for doing her hair and apparently this is rare floors are uneven but in sn old building what can you expect?
4) breakfast. Ours was freshly cooked and pastries etc were replenished throughout service even though we were at the back end of published service time. We were not rushed in any way

So in summary, had we pad attention to some of the trip adviser gripes we may have gone elsewhere as happened with some if our acquaintances. this is perhaps a little expensive but in life you tend to get what you pay for. As a treat this was perfect for us and we will happily stay there again

Stayed 3 nights 4th-7th July.
Locked out at 09.00 pm on first night.
Poor Wi Fi
Chipped cup in room.1 small bar of soap for 3 nights.one VERY small tv and a large cockroach in room on Friday night.
An experience we will not forget and will certainly not visit again. very over priced for what we got.

Thank you for your review.
We appreciate that one can enjoy a good time, but we would advise you to try the front door next time!!! One can sometimes enjoy a few drinks, it is not unusual, and the staff is always at hand to guide you to your room (and also the front door!) We would also take this opportunity to refer you to many more complimenting reviews, for the excellent quality of service at hand, the courtesy displayed by our member of staff, and of course the very good food we provide, including breakfast available to all our guests on a daily basis. As for the soap or toiletries, these are readily available to the guests, and we would kindly oblige to provide our guests on request.

My wife and I booked in for a week-end on a deal of 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast with a third night bed and breakfast free. This proved to be good value. The hotel is not cheap but you expect to be well looked after and we were. Others have complained about the front of house staff but I have nothing but praise for them, polite and helpful at all times. The room was good, the view of the garden and surrounding countryside made it. Facilities were good, with still and sparkling water available and given the hot nights extremely welcome. Breakfasts were good, if the freshly sliced food was stale I would suggest get up earlier, mine was fine. The dinners were a delight. Interesting food generally well cooked, though the chef had an English notion of rare with regard to steak, I should have asked for bleeding. Would I stay again? If I had a similar anniversary do to attend most certainly but it's not an everyday place for me.9

Room Tip: get a garden view

We arrived to a warm welcome and were shown to the first floor bow fronted room. A charming spacious and very well appointed bedroom with views over the garden. The standard of decor and furnishing, and the size of the house give it a feel of a very comfortable private home in which you are a privileged guest.

The location of the hotel opposite the castle in one of the oldest and most interesting parts of this small town added to the enjoyment of our one night stay.

The food at Dinham Hall is superb. It certainly deserves its awards and accolades. We found the complete experience a real treat and good value for money.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The house is lovely with a beautifully cared for town garden that is a pleasure to spend time in. The evening meal was delicious with the chef offering some unusual dishes that were well executed and very enjoyable.

Sadly, the front of house team are less inspiring. The general ethos is a 'hands off' approach to customer care. I had to spend a lot of time going to the office to disturb the staff coffee and computer games/texting to find out how to use the hotel and to get any service at all. The breakfast was also very disappointing with stale croissant and dull lifeless fruit. All in all not what I would expect in this price bracket.

There were very grubby parts to the hotel e.g. leftover pasta from the meal before around our table in the restaurant and crumbs around the breakfast tables. This was made more irritating when the cleaner could be seen reading the paper outside the bedrooms on the stairs!!!!

Room Tip: overlooking the garden is best

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel. On arrival, we were given an upgrade to a room view views over the garden. The room was elegant and comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and ensured we had everthing we needed.
Would definately reccommend.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the garden
