“Quite comfy”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Just love this old county hotel! Creaky floor boards, a lot of history, comfy rooms, not too expensive and right in the town. More like an old fashion inn really a busy welcoming place. We had good sevice in the bar and breakfast was good with good service. The dinning room we thought looked very quiet and very exspensive so we ate in the bar and that was fine.

Room Tip: Stay in the back the new part - no noise from the road or pub opposite.

This lovely old coaching inn had a warm and very friendly atmosphere .we had a. Twin room in the newer end of the hotel it was huge nicely decorated and warm ,it was time to redecorate but was ok for us .the hotel was very busy with a wedding on our second day but breakfast was poorly organised on both days ,staff were overwhelmed and not organised. It was a shame because the food was very good but cold by the time we got it ,they had allowed a dog in a neighbouring room which barked all evening ,I'm assuming whilst they were at supper ,not good , and the floor above us sounded so loud they had a small child running around and no sound proofing between floors ,

Room Tip: Arrive early to get car parking

We spent three nights here in October 2013 and were thoroughly delighed with our room, the service, and the overall experience. The staff is young, but couldn't have been more helpful and kind. Our room had a 4-poster bed, lots of space, and a bath with a whiirlpool-type tub. Off-street parking is free and easy to use. The offerings at dinner are limited, but the food is excellent. Breakfasts are of the same high quality. The only drawback was that wifi didn't reach our room, which was toward the rear and we had to go down the hall to read our emails. All in all, however, a charming, first-rate hotel in one of England's most attractive towns.

Room Tip: Rooms toward the back may be quieter but out of wifi range.

recently stayed here with family and chose this as firstly it was recommended and also it had several stars - always a good sign - It is very clean, very efficient and the pool which we had use of was also lovely - we stayed on the grounds of the hotel in a little cottage - it had a bedroom upstairs a lounge with sofa bed and a small kitchen - we also had breakfast included so we didn't actually use the kitchen - breakfast was very good food and very fresh - the price of this hotel is probably slightly higher than I would have liked to pay - but overall I would def stay again, as it is one of the nicest places I have stayed in a long time

Room Tip: I would def ask for the cottage rather than in the hotel - much more private

My husband and I stayed for one night to celebrate a special birthday. We had looked forward to visiting Ludlow for some time having read many good reviews about the beautiful architecture and excellent restaurants. We booked into the Feathers believing it to be a good central location from which to enjoy our weekend. Sadly the location was all that this faded, sad hotel has going for it. Our room - with 4 poster - was filthy. Dead flies and wasps lined the windowsills trapped behind hideous glass panels (some of which you couldn't even open). The room was never less than 80 degrees as you couldn't regulate the radiators. We called reception for assistance only to be told that if ours was to be turned off then the whole hotel would have to be. Pathetic - have these people not heard of thermostats? The bedding was disgusting - a dog poo brown synthetic blanket that was matted and disgusting and a faded and stained eiderdown. The shower was a dribble and mold was growing beautifully around the edge of the bath. The dressing table actually had dead insects trapped underneath its glass top, the lighting above the mirror was a strip rather like you might have in your utility room. But worse was to come. From 7pm (our room overlooked the main street, The Bull Ring), there was a Police car parked outside the pub opposite. At 7.10pm an arrest took place with some drunken yob being given his rights on the pavement outside. 10 minutes later more drunken scantily clad yobs came out onto the street and started fighting. Fortunately we had an escape out of the hotel for dinner (but not before having a drink in the bar, again lit like a down-market supermarket) and sat in the courtyard as it was a mild evening only to be faced with overflowing ashtrays on every table. Dinner was a delight fortunately (at The Mail Room 10/10) but when we returned to the hotel at 10pm things became even worse. 2 Police cars were now parked outside the hotel, drunken yobs literally littered the street for the next 5 hours. We heard people shouting, swearing, being sick, having sex in the alleyway adjacent to the hotel, you name it, we heard it. We would have left there and then except for the fact we had drunk a bottle of wine over dinner. At breakfast time we approached the receptionist (who said she was also the Duty Manager?) and told of our night from Hell. She said she was aware of the problems and they "were working with the local council on trying to rectify the situation but the hotel relies on feedback from guests". She admitted she too had noticed the police presence all evening. I said we would like a refund (we had paid £170 for this room) and by the time we had returned from breakfast would like this to be sorted out. Breakfast was a dismal affair also - poor quality tea, a stainless steel milk jug dating from the 70's that doesn't pour only spills, poor quality bread for the toast and an over-grilled kipper. We were refunded £100 and duly left, never to return. Our advice? Do not go near this hotel - spend your money wisely and keep away from the centre of Ludlow on a Saturday evening.

This building and hotel is the focal point of Ludlow, it has a great reputation and a lot to live up to. At the moment I would say it needs to look at improving its service in certain areas reading some of the other reviews, especially in reception.

We dined in the cafe bar, I thought the menu to be slightly over priced but the food was very good. One would expect linen serviettes to be offered, if they can do it in Indian restaurants at half the price why not here? The vegetable portions could be a little larger too.
The young lady behind the bar was exceptionally nice as was the young man who served the food.
Its always disappointing to see reviews on 'Trip Advisor' that have no follow up by management as this clearly shows a genuine lack of interest in customer service.

The website 'About us & History' actually doesn't contain any history of the building & hotel for that you need to go to Wikipedia and go you should if only to read about the ghosts especially if you are about to stay here-sleep tight!
(A sample bar menu would be nice on the website too)

The reception staff were polite but basically doing a job very matter of fact merely state what time the room is ready and on booking out justt he cost of your stay they do not ask if you had a good stay. The room was pleasant the shower was feeble and the water was either too hot or cold. The toilet cystern was running constantly. The breakfast staff were efficient and the breakfast menu was good.Obvoiusly this is a very old building and therefore does have creaks etc:
