The Feathers hotel in Ludlo.
Very old Tudor building . Step out the front door and you are in a small country town with a castle.
The hotel has large modern bedrooms ,some with balconies which we were fortunate to get.
Large old world lounge with carved fireplace and trim round the room ,old tiny glass windows that take you back to that century. Hotel is clean and we thought the food was very good.In no way
Over priced.Table service for breakfast ,food arrived on hot plates . To be honest we had no complaints with the hotel. Staff were young students who were very polite and willing to assist.
Over all a nice experience.

Room Tip: Room 515 a suite and a big one also 414 with a balconey

Our expectations were high having read about and seen the pictures of this hotel. First impressions are excellent. The exterior facade and public rooms are breathtaking. This building oozes history.

From reading other reviews it seems the standard of the rooms varies greatly. We were in a four poster room at the front overlooking the main road but surrounded by woodchip and tired decor detracts from the effect and leaves you feeling a bit deflated. The rooms in my opinion definitely need upgrading to match the splendour of the rest of the hotel.

Other points:
-The car park can't cater for the number of rooms and gets full at busy times. Nearest public
car park is some distance away.
-The hotel is excellently located for the market, shops, pubs and restaurants.
-The front rooms overlook the main road with other pubs located opposite so it can be noisy at
night. This wasn't a problem for us but we heard other guests complaining.
-We didn't eat in the hotel apart from breakfast which was OK.

Room Tip: Phone ahead to ensure you get a room that is suitable for your needs.

When I told someone I was staying at the Feathers they did a double take and said wow. There was no wow, nothing exceptional beyond the novelty of staying in such an old building. The room was spacious, bed ok, amenities sufficient. I would have expected there to be soya milk available at breakfast, they have it at Premier Inns, for goodness sake. The staff were polite and efficient.
The signage to the rooms was puzzling- I spoke to another guest who felt the same. My overwhelming feeling was that it was not worth the price I paid for it.

Room Tip: don't have a room overlooking the main road

Very impressive building, the Feathers is right in the middle of Ludlow, no car needed to get around. Very helpful staff, good room but average food. We stayed two nights ate in the bar one night was very disappointed with the food.

Room Tip: Try for a room on the top floor you may here creaky floorboards on a lower floor.

If you are going to stay in Ludlow [and I think you should] then rest up here if you have the cash. Its interesting, comfy, located downtown, has a good olde bar downstairs and excellent food and the staff are very suited to the atmosphere of the place. It has rooms of differing names; mostly to do with the local history [ of which there's plenty ] One is named the "Fuggles" room and will be a familiar name to home brewers as it is the most popular strain of hops going.
A double standard ensuite room is 115/125 pounds p.n. with varying standards up to 170/210 pounds p.n. incl. breakfast. Maybe a better deal is the plus dinner option at about 12% more. These are certainly not a budget traveler's idea of a night's sleeping cost, but to the more affluent it is probably the norm, and one must remember that it is a "special" place.

Stayed for one night in June 2013. Great location and impressive old building with some ornate rooms and features. Quick and friendly check in.

Had breakfast which was spot on, full English is just as it should be. Fresh squeezed juices, with good cold and hot choices.

Nice, clean room with robes, slippers, tea & coffee. Staff throughout friendly and helpful, Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The feathers is stunning to see no one could fail but to be impressed with the way the hotel looks. Inside it is a mixture of the old with some newish extensions, dont expect level passage ways and swish interior designs, that said our room was roomy, airy and clean. Do take time to explore the reading room and some of the older parts of this wonderfully old Hotel it is situated in the heart of Ludlow which has good Resturants nice shops a castle and busy market. I dont enjoy shopping but enjoyed Ludlow it is varied and interesting.
