I've been to this little beauty with my family many times now. It's in a restored water mill, with the river thundering past in winter, the warm comforting welcome is a joy :-)

You often need to book: with food this good you'd expect that. But take a risk one morning, go and have toast and coffee there... The coffee is absolutely the best in Ludlow. Serious Italian style smooth and velvety. The toast and the view will have you asking the staff to book you a table for lunch.

Don't be offended if they need to set you an arrival time AND a leaving time. The sheer tiny scale of the cafe but the quality of ingredient and the amount of staff all need paying for with either high prices or timely customer turn. This cafe us awesome value and excellent cooking. It's not hurried it's just customer politeness to excellent staff to leave on time after top notch food.

Long may this perfect balance exist :-)

Visited for lunch. Had to book. Ate really really well cooked food, main and desert (shared) with coffee for £28 + tip. The staff were lovely and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. The room is very informal. Superb. What more is there to say? Oh yes, great location by the river and just below the castle. Tremendous. Well worth interrupting sight-seeing for.

The Green Cafe came up trumps again, my wife and had lunch there on Saturday and it was excellent , the artichoke and celeriac soup topped with hazelnuts and a little oil was superb , I decided on the mackerel with lentils and again was not disappointed , dessert had to be lemon polenta cake ,again excellent . The staff are friendly and informative about the menu, this is a great place for lunch and we will be going back soon hopefully sit on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful location.
