“Afternoon tea for 3”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Three of us went for afternoon tea to celebrate my husband Colin's 60th birthday and as e deferred treat for his mother's birthday earlier in the year, so it was something of a special occasion.
The setting is lovely in the pretty market town of Ludlow and the tea-shop is really traditional - all exposed beams, open fire and waitresses smartly presented in black with white aprons and hats. And the afternoon teas lived up to expectations - sandwiches with generous fillings on tasty fresh bread, large homemade scones with jam and lashings of clotted cream, a cream cake each (my vanilla slice was to die for!) all washed down with plenty of tea and coffee.
Even for a cold Monday afternoon in February there were enough customers to provide a pleasant atmosphere and the staff were helpful without being overbearing.
All in all a really good experience.

“Just like Bettys”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Charming old fashioned tea room, scrumptious cakes and scones, lovely coffee. Someone told me it's been there for a hundred years, you can believe it. Go upstairs, it's like a scene out of Charles Dickens. Interesting stop for tea and coffee, not sure about the food.

“Like stepping back into an age of elegance”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

I hadn't been to Ludlow in over 30 years & didn't know for sure if DeGrey's would even still be there, but it is!! And not only is it still there but it's just as I remember it! If you want to step back in time & experience an unrushed & great value break in your day, head here!! Gorgeous cakes & pastries on offer, as well as a full meal menu, tea served as it should be, a choice of blends served in a pot with a jug of extra hot water alongside!! Uniformed staff, only too happy to help & the whole decor in keeping with it's history! I'm hoping I don't have to wait another 30 years before I can visit them again!!

“Tea rooms with tradition”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

The tea and scones were very nice. Tradition abounds in this Ludlow jewel. An essential part of the towns fabric and a reminder of a world before Starbucks and Costa. A much better world I hasten to add.

“Welsh rarebit in Shropshire”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Popped in for lunch and was transported back to tea with my Grandma. Uniforms and building are from another era but not the service or the food, charming.

Cheese in toast has never been so good, with embedded grilled tomato, another success.

Lovely experience, thank you.
