The Tontine Hotel enjoys one of the finest locations in the Country and is a handsome and interesting building. I have stayed there many times over more than 20 years and when visiting the Irongridge area I would stay nowhere else. BUT there are problems: the building is run down and needs refurbishing. Believe me, it is better than it was twenty years ago!

Wow! I think that’s the first thing I would say about the Tontine hotel. The reason I say that is that it felt as though I was staying with family.
The staff were so friendly and welcoming and although we only stayed for two nights, we got to know them all by name and really couldn’t have been happier with the service they provided.
The food was great, especially the spotted dick and the great breakfasts. Next I would say that if you are going to stay in Ironbridge then you can’t stay anywhere more central than the Tontine. It’s straight on to the bridge and right in the heart of everything. The hotel has great parking facilities, as each room comes with a parking permit, allowing you to park in all three of the central car parks without charge. The rooms were a good size, always clean and tidy and they were all cleaned and restocked daily, but if we required anything extra, the staff were always quick to respond. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
As we were about to leave Ironbridge, we discovered that we had lost the radiator cap for our car. Obviously without this we couldn’t travel. Not only did Nick and his team help us find numbers for dealers, they even went as far as to drive to a scrap yard and get us the replacement. This was above and beyond anything I would have expected them to do for me and I am extremely grateful to them for this.
I will certainly go back there, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who intended staying in the area.

Arrived at the hotel for a weekend break away to be greated by a friendly barmaids called amy. She was extremely helpful throughout out stay and advised us on local surroundings around the area. The hotel was beautifully decorated extremely clean was a fabulous view of the ironbridge. The room was lovely, we had a four poster room And the bed was very comfy. The next
mornin we woke up to a lovely full English breakfast was very tasty. Overall the hotel was great would definatly come back and advise other people to go.

Travelled with my kid and friends for an event close by. The hotel looks lovely on the outside, terrible and unorganized from the inside.. A wedding ruined the night with loud crowds..
woke up at 6 and went for a stroll, which is the best thing that i can remember from this stay..

Breakfast is PURE rubbish

It's a beautiful place, and the paintings in the bar were wonderful, (done by a local artist), very central & very close to museums, bus stops & landmarks.
The room was comfy, and i'd a view straight out on the bridge.
Would recommend it to people who like history & exploring. Staff were generally nice, especially the barmaid Amy, she was always cheery.
Restaurant could do with a bit of a face-lift though.

Booked hotel via the internet based on it's fantastic location. On arrival felt disappointed as the place smelt of chip fat. As we climbed the stairs to our room the building was obviously old and quite tired. The family room was large with fantastic view of bridge right at the top of the hotel. Very noisy outside until the early hours, not good for young children. Wouldn't say that it was dirty, but it didn't somehow feel clean. Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast very tasty but the table was suspiciously sticky(dirty?)

My partner and I decided to visit Ironbridge with my parents, we had not booked anywhere ahead and on arriving in the village found the Tontine in a very prominent place opposite the Ironbridge itself. It looked charming from the outside so we decided to enquire. We were shown a couple of rooms that were available and chose a four poster double en-suite and a twin en-suite. Both rooms had a lovely view over looking the river and the bridge, although the road is quite busy and a little noisey we found that it was quieter later in the evening. The rooms looked as though they had recently been decorated and were clean and tidy and we all found the beds comfortable. The ensuites had a bath but no shower, (which was fine for us) although we were told that they had a main bathroom on the same floor which had a shower if we preferred.

A downside is that it is unsuitable for wheelchair bound visitors to stay, as there are quite a lot of stairs to climb to the rooms and no lift facility.
