Generally a high standard, but could improve.

The overall impression is of good employees trying hard, but a lack of management direction and training.

A few examples:

Dry cleaning of suit promised for important function next day. Did not happen as new employee did not know cleaner had to be called to pick it up.

Bar ran out of things like ice, lemon etc. Barman did not know how to work pumps.

Bits of sellotape and fragments of Christmas decorations remaining in hall.

No one to help with luggage upon arrival.

Room cleaners shout to each other up and down passages. Bundles of sheets left for a long time in corridors, impending progress.

Toast maker available at breakfast buffet one day. The next it is removed to the kitchen. ("Heath and safety! Too dangerous for guests. Ask for toast"). Next day it is back again.

But these are relatively minor complains. Overall it is fairly good quality. The restaurant staff are great. The food is at the top end of good, but falls a little short of excellent..

Would stay again. Nice grounds and good walks.

Staff need to all go on customer service courses. They were rude, unorganised and unhelpful. If I knew then what I know now I would never have got married at kenwood. Only good thing are the grounds. My wedding day didn't go to plan, it's ok though as someone at kenwood suggested that I could just put my dress back on and have all my photos done again?? What a rediculous suggestion. Staff were more than helpful on the run upto my wedding that all changed the minute they had been paid. My guests were sent roaming around the hotel assured their rooms were ready when they weren't. I won't be stopping at the kenwood again and neither will either of my guests.

I was a little surprised to hear your feedback as your wedding took place in August of last year.
Generally speaking the feedback is more than positive regarding the team, and I am concerned your implication was that all of the team was rude
Unfortunately as explained with the operations manager the hotel try wherever possible to direct the photographers however as they are organised directly with the bride and groom we are not always party to specific requirements. We do try to gain as much information in your final details meetings so we can relate to third party involvement such as photographers, chair cover companies & florists in order for us to fully facilitate on the day and ensure that you enjoy your day without any hitches.
The hotel has large grounds in which the photographers have many opportunities for pictures froms the grounds to lakeside

Just stayed for 1 night whilst visiting relatives but what a beautiful setting ! The hotel was very comfortable. The pool was warm but if I'm being picky the tiles around the pool were shabby and some broken/ missing and sadly the steam room was not working but it was still nice to be able to go for a swim and chill out before heading back home.
Too many hotels now won't allow you to use the facilities once checked out but this one does and it was lovely.
We stayed in a very spacious room which although it overlooked the car park more than made up for it with the size of the room ......enormous.
The full breakfast was an extra special price of £10 each but well worth it as there was a very good choice.
Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 301 very spacious and comfy

I read the reviews on here after we'd booked a room here and has a certain amount of trepidation at reading the negative comments about dirty rooms and poor service.

I'm glad to say that we had a lovely evening. At a very fair price. £85 for the room, spa access, 2 course dinner and breakfast! Who can argue with that. Especially for a city centre location with lovely gardens and close by to lots of bars, restaurants and shopping.

We were given an upgraded room as they'd run out of standard doubles which was very clean, very well appointed and lovely and warm. Fantastic power shower, nice little flat screen tv (with free view) and a controllable radiator rather than air-con which made a big difference (I hate AC)

The spa is lovely although the steam room was broken - although we were informed by the very lovely and friendly regular spa members that the facilities have been in good working order for the 20 years they'd been attending.

I really can't stress enough that the bad reviews in here are inaccurate (in our opinion). We didn't see all the rooms obviously but the hotel seemed genuinely clean and well run.

The only small gripe was that the menu for groupon voucher guests was a reduced menu - which could have been publicised better - however it's a small point and the food we were served was lovely - not haut cuisine sure, but definitely above average hotel food.

All in all we were VERY pleased and had a lovely time. We'll be looking for that deal again.
Not perfect - but highly recommended

Thank you for your comments and I am pleased that you enjoyed your value for money break with us.
As you mention we are set in 11 acres of our own grounds within easy reach of the busy city centre, a tranquil setting to enjoy your break
I apologise about the steam room as we are waiting on parts, however as our members mentioned generally we are able to fix any issues within the same day

Our accommodation was in the annexe so there were many stairs & long corridors on different levels. Our room was small but comfortably furnished in a very traditional way, the beds were comfortable & the bathroom situated up some stairs from the bedroom was opulent & everything was clean. The weather was very hot during our stay & being unable to open a window & with no air conditioning the room was uncomfortably warm even with the provision of a fan which the management provided on request. The breakfast buffet was substantial.
The hotel is situated in delightful grounds: reception staff seemed harassed, confused & not particularly well trained. It does try to be a ' country house' hotel, but sadly fails through lack of style, ambience & real character.

Room Tip: Only go in the winter: if it's warm you'll cook!

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay in July with us
We have a variety of bedrooms of all standards which spread throughout the hotel, however all of our public facilites, restaurant and bars are located adjacent to reception whilst our bedrooms are spread throughout the hotel. This does help as it ensure's that all of our bedrooms are within a quiet location
As you stayed in the summer it was warmer and unfortunately due to health and safety regulations all of our windows are fitted with restrictors to prevent them opening fully.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your overall stay with us

my parents stayed here 2 nights in February, with myself joining them (separate room) for the 2nd night. We booked because there was an offer for 20% off room rate and free breakfast with added benefit of quiet location near Sheffield centre and pool/sauna facilities. Reception staff didnt seem to quite know how the computer worked. Bar and restaurant staff all friendly although clearing tables at breakfast seemed slow. My parents were in a Suite room which had a patio and overlooked the lake and also had modern bathroom and nicer finishes and fittings. I was in 301 which was a normal room: really old CRT TV, masses of space with ample room for the double bed, two armchairs and coffee table. The decor and finishes were a bit tired and the bathroom was looking a bit worn but everything worked. Food was excellent and nice service and selection at the bar area too. Pool was smaller than we expected, small kidney shape, so you couldnt exactly do any fitness swimming but adequate for a splash around. Nice hot tub and sauna/steam room area too. You have to walk down some stairs to get to the changing rooms, so remember your towel or you have to walk back up cold and wet. We would all stay again if there was another offer, wouldn't really want to be paying more than £70 per room per night. There was also a wedding evening on during our stay, but we didnt notice as the function rooms are completely separate from the reception/bar/restaurant area.

Room Tip: East facing rooms look at the car park, west facing rooms look at the grounds. Due to the accommodat...

Whilst the hotel is not modern and purpose built I am pleased that you thought it clean, tidy and comfortable and unfortunately only our upgraded rooms have flat screen TV and a variety of channels.
I would like to thank you for the comments regarding the staff and the food in the restaurant

After reviewing the latest remarks on this site, we decided to book the hotel for a night's getaway anyhow and take a chance - The negative reviews can sometimes be exaggerated! Upon arrival the hotel did have a nice entrance and grounds and all seemed hopeful, however from the dreary staff on reception and the shabby corridors it was soon clear that we should have taken note of the reviews. The room was cold and felt damp. The windows were smeared and the bed looked uninviting and well used - curved up at the corners! The bathroom was dated and on close inspection was not best cleaned. In fact the whole appearance was that of a bedsit with the shabby sofas and tatty furniture. The rooms desperately need a makeover and need to be brought in line with the standards of a 4 star hotel. It was somewhat disappointing and therefore honestly, the first time I have checked in a hotel and asked to check back out within 30 minutes! We were offered a free upgrade but although this room was more modern, it still lacked the ambience of 4 star accommodation and by this point we were also put off by the hotel! As we was also surprised to see communal areas such as the lounge, staircases and corridors being decorated - nowhere does it advise about the disruption and works taking place (not really helping with the relaxing atmosphere!)
This hotel does not feel like a four star hotel nor worth the nightly rate- shame really as with some TLC this could be something special. Hugely disappointed and would not recommend.

Thank you for your comments although a little disappointed with your feedback
As you mention on arrival we are always trying to improve the hotel hence the redecoration of the reception area on your arrival. With any works undertaken we try to minimise any disruption to our guests during this process. I have received nothing other than positive comments regarding the decoration works at the hotel
