Spent 3 nights here for swimming championships. I am delighted to say that the help and friendliness of the staff turn a budget hotel into a good place to stay. Minutes walk from town and the tram to Meadowhall shopping centre. Only downside is parking, expensive and a nightmare to find.

We arrived in the city by National Express coach and walked to Angel/Bank Street. The property was not too hard to find. It is near a a big run-down looking co-op building. The reception has a Costa Coffee shop inside (very useful) and a few tidy tables and chairs - plus an ice-cream machine. The reception staff were genuinely pleasant and very helpful & efficient. A great welcome!

Our room was on second floor. Views weren’t terrific - but they wer not too bad. From or window we could see out over the ‘street market’ area. The bed was comfy. The air-con was working - it’s not powerful - but it did the job adequately over a very hot weekend. The bathroom was satisfactory. Not the best we’ve had at Premier Inn - but nothing to moan about either. The window could be opened (which we like) even if it was only a few inches, and the room was tidied very well each day (we stayed 3 nights.)

We define the hotel as ‘very good’ rather than just ‘good’ because of the staff. They were remarkably efficient and warm-hearted. We had breakfast each day in the first floor restaurant. The breakfast staff were attentive and friendly. We had drinks each evening in the bar - the bar staff went out of their way to be helpful and enquiring.

The hotel feels very secure. Every time we came through the reception area, the staff would look up and greet us and they became familiar with the faces of the guests. Entry to the bedroom floors was by room card only.

We were visiting the Tramlines Festival over the weekend, and some of the venues were quite a trek from this hotel. It is fair to point out that there may be more centrally based hotels. But the Ibis and the Travel Lodge are basically in the same area as this Premier Inn. And the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express are even further away from the Heart of the City - down in the Victoria Quays.

But outside the hotel is a tram stop (we highly recommend that you use the trams to get about - it is a very efficient, clean and reliable system) - so you won’t feel cut off.

The building is a bit ‘tired’ and the decoration is a bit tarnished - little things (like sticky hand rails on the stairs) may let this place down. But the staff more than make up for any small negatives that you might find. This is highly recommended. An economically realistic base for your stay in Sheffield.

We booked 2 rooms for my son's graduation. We booked for 2 nights to give us plenty of time to prepare on the day and also as we were having a family celebration meal afterwards it meant we didn't have to drive home to the North East until the following day. On both days we had breakfast in the hotel which was very nice, the cooked food was freshly prepared and lovely and hot. There was a good selection of food on the continental option too. The staff at breakfast were cheerful and helpful. The hotel was very well placed for transport to the University as parking around there is very difficult. Tram stops and bus stops are just a short walk away, and it is just a few minutes journey to the University. There is an NCP care park behind the hotel so it is easy to leave the car there and travel by public transport. After the graduation ceremony we had more family join us for a meal in the Thyme restaurant back at the Premier Inn. We had pre-booked the meal in advance with the hotel but we had to change the number of diners a couple of times before the day due to people being unable to make it, the final change being done on our day of arrival, but the hotel just said no problem and amended the details for us. The hotel were absolutely fantastic with the meal. They let us have a different table to the one they had reserved for us when I asked if we could have the round table which meant it was easier for us to all chat , and no-one was on the end feeling left out. The food and drink were excellent and served with a smile every time by the waiter and waitress. They looked after us very well and even kindly cut up and served our own cake which we had brought with us. Nothing was too much trouble. The whole experience helped to make my Son's graduation a day to remember and cherish.

Stayed at Premier inn as saw the great write ups on trip advisor - all true - the staff were so helpful - printed off a load of documents my daughter needed for her gown hire and the breakfast team were very cheerful and ran to find me a pair of scissors as left tags on new clothes. We then had to book my daughter into the hotel as friend let her down last minute - the front desk arranged everything and managed to find a room close to us - really impressed with this particular Premier Inn not the same as previous one I stayed at
