“Reasonable Hotel, cold bare rooms”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

I enjoyed my stay over all at this particular Mercure hotel. The internet left a bit to be desired in regards to speed but it was in a great location in Sheffield. I also thought the rooms felt very "cold" not in temperature but they were fairly bare in regards to any sort of decoration and attention to detail. The carpet was also fairly beat up and didn't seem to have been installed well as it was puckering up in my room in many places.

Room Tip: Go higher than the 2nd floor. any view I had was blocked by the restaurant and atrium.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and 3 days.
First off-Parking, doesn't have a car park for such a big hotel but does have a valeting service for £23 or could use the local ncp for just £7.00 for 24 hours..it's a no-brainer really.
The room was big and spacious or though there were weird bubbles in the carpet as if they hadn't laid it correctly, nice bathroom, Really nice comfy bed.
The best part was the spa..can't say enough about this.nice swimming pool, love, love ,LOVE the sauna.everyone should try the ice fountain room and the aroma room! It was so relaxing, I could've stayed in there for the whole trip..but we had to see the rest of it.
We had Breakest included too, a hot buffet with the usual suspects.the bacon was a bit tough but otherwise really yummy, also had cereal and fruit for the health concious,me, i headed straight for the fried goods!!
Bad points- exclusive gift was also thrown into the bargain...apparently......didn't get it! didn't see it! it was never mentioned!!
parking-bit of a pain, but got used to it.
The carpet could've been a tripping harzard.
Overall..Nice hotel, bit expensive over £200 for 2 nites..but would use mecure again.

Staff were extremely welcoming on arrival, including giving me a sewing kit to fix my evenings dress. Perfectly situated in the City Centre, with easy access to the train station.
Stayed for business, and would definitely recommend the hotel and stay again myself.

This is a really good modern hotel. The lobby is big and airy as is the bar and restaurant.

My room was lovely, very big lovely comfortable bed, well decorated and floor to ceiling windows. Separate bath and shower was also a good touch.

The meal was thoroughly enjoyable, good value and well presented.

A couple of things I felt was a bit on the pricey side. £26 for overnight valet parking feels excessive as does £16 for breakfast.

I took my girlfriend away for a two night spa break to get away from all the stress at home. The hotel staff were fantastic and very helpful from cleaners to receptionists and the Spa staff.

Finding the hotel was easy but finding the car park was a little tricky .The NCP car park prices were very expensive however when we got to the hotel, our car park chip was scanned and discount down from £18 for 24hours to £6.50 for 24 hours.

The pool and thermal suite were well maintained and teh Spa it rooms and treatments were amazing.

My girlfriend would strongly recomend the Hot rocks massage.

Only downside was that the room was sold to have lovely views over the city lights. While the view over the small park / water feature was nice, there wasnt much of a city lights view. Also, the doors and corridors were noisy which woke me in the morning.

One other thing is that the bathroom TV speaker wasnt working and kept crackling which was a bit annoying but we just turned it right down so we couldnt hear it.

Room Tip: Try and go as High as you can to get the best view.

The hotel is excellent, but it is very difficult and confusing to arrive to by car. It should be much better signposted and driving instructions should be given by the hotel. The room was big and very clean, and the beds were excellent.

I stayed here at the end of March with my Mum, as part of a Groupon deal given to us as a christmas present. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised as to how close we were to the city centre, and the afternoon tea in the champagne bar was delicious. The treatments at the spa were good and it was a really relaxing atmosphere. The main issue with this hotel was the rooms. The beds were very firm, and I found it difficult to get comfortable and slept poorly (as did my Mother). Even worse was the lack of cold water in the bathroom. All taps poured out warm water, of which was a browny colour. I got up in the middle of the night for a drink, ended up with warm water, but drank it anyway. It wasn't until I got myself another glass in the morning that I realised the water was brown. Not really want you want in a 4* hotel.

We had a good time but that was more to do with the spa and the location, rather than the hotel and I would not stay here again.
