“Brilliant venue for our wedding reception”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2010

We had our wedding reception at Whitley Hall, after finding them through Trip Advisor! Highly recommended. The staff were all extremely helpful at all stages through enquiries, booking and the reception itself, and for the duration of our stay and that of our guests. It is a beautiful old building, with many interesting original features, a warm and friendly atmosphere, and plenty of room outside for photos/kids to play etc. Easy to get to from the M1, and plenty of parking, but still not too far from Sheffield city centre either. We'll definitely be back! :-)

We booked and stayed here for the Xmas/New Year bank hol on the back of the great reviews on here. On checking in we found that the room was really small, there was pretty much just enough room to walk round the bed and that was it.

When we went down to dinner we found the staff in the bar to be verging on rude. At the bar we were served by a boy who looked about 13, had a bit of an attitude problem and talked to you like you were one of his mates not a paying customer (drinks were over priced).

When the waiter came over to take our order (again in the bar area) he said he 'didn't think' they had the wine we wanted - no recommendation of an alternative, no apology just - I don't think we've got that. Again he talked to us like we were his mates not customers.

In the restuarant our food was over cooked and lacked flavour however the service was better.

Our room was next to a storage cupboard and we were woken up at 8am by staff chatting/laughing.

Check out is at 10.30 and breakfast served until 9.30 - earlier than we'd have liked. When we went down for breakfast there was a bit queue for the hot buffet as they'd run out of things and there was no orange juice.

On checking out we asked for suggestions of things to do in the local area and they didn't seem to have any.

We stayed here for 3 nights on the escape the winter blues break. Included were the 3 nights,3 breakfasts and 2 dinners. The food was really good, the dinners were 4 courses and then coffee all included. Everything was excellant. The bedrooms were all decorated differently. We probably had one of the smaller ones looking at the other room which family had. Also incuded was a bottle of pink bubbly on arrival and small decanter of port. All lovely touches
We were told before we went that there were xmas dinners going on and there would be a disco but that it would stop at 12 midnight. This was the case but was not a problem. It was nice to be told.
Only gripe we had was that the first night the resteurant and downstairs bar area was bit chilly. We apreciate that this is an old building but it was bit to nippy!!
All staff were helpful from the breakfast guys right through to eve bar staff.
Fantastic value and would definately go again.

We like nice food when we eat out and a friend at work told me about this place. We found the beautiful building up a winding counrty road and was not dissapointed.
The hotel was doing a 2 for 1 basis so we was not sure whether the food would be up to much.....it is georgous. We have been twice now on this deal and had a 3 couse meal. £25 per couple. The drinks are expensive so this makes up for the discount on the food but it is still worth it.
My daughter booked 'The Romantic Break' for my birthday. We stayed on a sunday so it was not overly busy.
You can check in at 2p, check out is10.30am.
We dropped our bags in the room and there was a bottle of bubbly on ice waiting for us, plus a decanter of port and a bottle of water (all part of the deal).
We had a walk around the grounds past the stream and pond and came across peacocks which walk freely around the gardens.
The rooms are a nice size. They are clean and modern with a shower and a lovely big bath. There is a flat screen tv in the room, tea and coffee making facilities, i was supprised to find an iron in the room aswell.
You can get room service for an extra £5 but we decided to get dressed up and go down to the resturaunt. We had a 3 course meal, (part of the deal) everything was spot on, delicious, a couple of bottles of wine with it went down a treat.
Once our meal was finished we moved to the lounge and got seated in front of a cosy log fire, we sat there til mid night. What a treat.
We went down to breakfast (also part of the deal) about 9am and was greeted with the most cheerfull waitresses.
There was a table full of cereal, fresh fruit, stewed fruit, yoghurt, home made jam and marmalade, jars of honey, fresh fruit juices, we just helped ourselves, the waitress brought us toast (as much as you like) tea and coffee and took our order for a cooked breakfast, i had full English, my parnter had scrambled eggs and bacon.
We went back to our room afterwards to chill out for an hour before heading off home.
We will be going back.

Stayed three nights for our wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed it. Breakfast and evening meal were great. Room fine with bottle of sparkling rose and port on arrival. They also recommended local pub for a meal on third night and the meal there was great too. Easy drive to peak district. Recommended.

booked as an anniversary meal, service in the bar was poor, was ignored at first, then eventually served, with overpriced drinks , first course slightly over cooked, second course, wrong meal, when duck arrived it had been cremated, i realise that they were busy but this should never have left the kitchen. Pudding was very pretty, but tasteless.
I complained on the web site and was offered a free lunch, hardly a recompence for a ruined wedding anniversary meal.
sorry won't be back
