we attended another wedding here, thats the 4th one in the last year, so we knew about the high bar prices, so im not going to complain about that, however what we didnt get this time which we did recieve the other times where a great staff service, reception was ok, but didnt really look like he knew what he was doing and therefore it got quite busy but we understand it might be new staff. we went up to our room and all was good and just like the other 3 times the room has been fantastic, nice and clean and has everything we needed, the service that i am talking about that realy didnt impress anyone was that off the bar staff, and the lack of interest that they showed to us and other customers. Now we are paying an excessive amount a pint and therefore dont expect to be served with a face that shouts that they dont want to be there. Iwould say there was 1 of the staff that knew what they were doing and therefore having to tell everyone else what to do aswell as pick up the slack and that was little danny, Isay little danny because the past 3times we have come its been danny d that has looked after us all, and we got to know him at the hotel and he always provided a high standerd of service and had a smile one his face, which we was expectin to see this time aswell, however we was found that he has left to another hotel. which is a great shame as he generated a great atmosphere,
Im not saying that its because he has left that the service has dropped because we only stayed one night and they might just be having an off day, however compared to when he was behind the bar, well there was no comparison everything was organised and everyone got served, and if a table had collapsed TWICE!!! he would have been out to sort it out.
there waitresses were however very nice and couldnt help enough, feel a bit dissapointed overall, and sorry for the bride and groom whose special day could have been better in my opinion.

We recently enjoyed a stay at the Whitley Hall Hotel, we had booked the romantic break offer. It was everything I had been told it would be and more. The staff were wonderful, helpful but not imposing, courteous and very friendly. The rooms was small but perfectly formed in every detail. I would highly recommend requesting a room in the old part of the building if you want that added extra touch of class. The food was outstanding, we had an exquisite evening meal which was of an excellent standard and quality. The wine was perfectly matched and reasonably priced and the overall experience was sublime. I am very much looking forward to returning in the very near future.

Room Tip: The old part of the hotel, overlooking the courtyard.

Arrived with our wedding party on lovely sunny afternoon. Stunning gardens , seating areas, and the gorgeous peacocks roaming the grounds . That was where it ended. Was extremely dissapointed with the service and attitude of the staff. In our opinion there is absolutely no customer service whatsoever, the staff were inexperienced & unhelpful and quite abrupt when asked a question such as the use of a knife and fork for breakfast and a clean unused cup. Directions to your room, was told 2 different ways to room - both wrong another had to take us in the end where we u couldn't get in as they forgot to give us the right fob to get in courtyard rooms. The woman in charge at breakfast was rude to guests actual paying customers what helps to pay her wages she may care to remember she asked the brides mother and partner to move from the seats they had chosen at breakfast as they wasn't allowed to sit there even though they were halfway through their breakfast . Why we do not know?! They were not happy at all. It was embarrassing and . The chair leg collapsed on a 78 year old guest at breakfast which shook him up . We all thought basil faulty would jump through the door any moment. Our friends had spent thousands of pounds for a reception here 2years in the planning and it is poor service I feel they got. The food was ages coming out and staff seemed to forget what they were doing. Plates missing ,food shortage and general couldn't care less attitude.the table collapsed at the night reception with a candelabra and 5lit candles tumbling to the floor . 2guest had to scramble to get 2 of them before a fire started. But no real concern was displayed by nearby staff. Then the same table was straightened up only for 30mins later it collapsed again with 5full pints of beer on smashing to the floor. Were they replaced NO as now the bar was closed !!! !no residents bar as advised to us all prior to staying - they just shut shop.. Goodbye- Shoddy service . At almost £5 a drink you would think they would offer a refund even if no drinks replacement. . In our opinion speaking on behalf of 11 others It looks like everyone is on a youth training scheme as not one member of staff seemed to have any knowledge or professionalism one would expect from a 4star hotel dealing with all ages of customers. Extortionate bar prices for a captive audience also our friend asked for 4 bottles of champagne to celebrate and they never even brought them to him so he didn't ask again. He gave up. Missed profit there I think. . In our honest opinion Whitley hall has a nice venue but needs major staff overall with some care and customer service experience. We have stayed in many 4 star hotels- well known and they are far superior and classy than this poorly run hotel. It's a real shame. ...

I went to a wedding a few weeks ago at Whitley Hall, and the room the reception was held in was tiny! The food was nice, I didn't stay overnight, but I think that it's the kind of place that's great for a romantic stay in a grand setting rather than a wedding venue.

Room Tip: Don't choose the little room for your wedding reception

We stayed at this beautiful hotel earlier in the year.We had booked their DBB offer for one night. From the moment we arrived there, the staff were so welcoming and attentive.Nothing was too much trouble.
The room in the older part of the hotel was cozy and oozed charm.Part of the offer was a bottle of pink bubbly and a small carafe of port on arrival. The bubbly was sitting in a bucket of ice, such a lovely touch. The room was spotlessly clean, and the bed extremely comfortable.
The bathroom was lovely with a wonderful deep bath.
The bar area was inviting, and even though there was a wedding on,it didnt intrude on guests staying at the hotel. The drink prices were very average for a hotel,we didnt find them overly expensive.
The dining room was gorgeous, and the food at dinner divine. The tables were nicely spaced out,so you werent on top of eachother. There was a pianist playing throughout the evening, which added a lovely touch to the ambiance.
The breakfast was freshly cooked and piping hot, with a great choice to offer
Gardens and grounds were exquisite, sure would be fantastic in spring and summer months.
We cant wait to visit there again, hopefully sometime later in the year.
We are also seriously looking at the hotel for our future wedding venue. They offer a fantastic wedding package, such value for money. So reasonable for a hotel of such quality.
If you want a romantic relaxing night away, would highly recommend this hotel nestled in the beautiful countryside in Grenoside.
If you going from Sheffield by bus,it will take you approx 20 minutes from the main road to walk down the lovely country road to get there. Not sure would want to walk back up that way though.Quite a steep climb.
Taxi was very reasonable back into Sheffield..approx £6.00.

Room Tip: A romantic sanctuary in beautiful countryside.

We stopped at the Whitley Hall Hotel, Grenoside on the 23rd March 2013 for 1 night. The weather that weekend was terrible with 10 foot deep snow drifts on the hills close by, access to the hotel was near on impossible. We were there principally for a wedding reception held at the Hotel.

Everything about this 16th century Hotel oozes a bit of class and a cut above the rest. From the moment we arrived at the Hotel it was pretty clear we were going to have a nice stay. At reception even though they were under a lot of pressure due to the volume of arrivals our check-in was dealt with quickly, efficiently and courteously.

Our room (No 2) was close to reception on the first floor overlooking the entrance and was delightful, spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. In the public areas the different rooms are full of Tudor features and there are surprises around every corner we wished we were staying longer to explore more.

All the food we had during our stay was of very good quality and served on immaculately arranged tables with spotlessly clean table clothes. Breakfast was good too, but thought having a sausage or slice of bacon served to you was a bit of an overindulgence.

I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quite weekend romantic break and will undoubtedly be going back.

Just returned home from a one night stay at this beautiful Country House hotel.
Could not fault anything.
House is beautiful, rooms very tasteful and spotlessly clean
Food was fantastic at dinner and breakfast
We did the romantic package which included a small decanter of port in the room and a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival and £70 towards the evening meal great value for money
Drinks were expensive
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful

Room Tip: Room 3 in the old house was very nice
