The pub's name hints at a pub aimed primarily at students from the nearby Sheffield Hallam Uni but it's used by a large cross section of people, of all ages.

The drink is the usual commercial brands you get everywhere else, with discounts for students & those with pre-paid discount cards. The food is standard pub grub, with decent portions, prices are in line with other nearby pubs such as The Old Monk, just round the corner on Norfolk St.

Always a lively atmosphere, accompanied by tv's, jukebox, pool tables, so avoid if you're looking for a quiet drink, especially at the weekends. Saturday nights, with bouncers on the doors controlling who gets in, are particularly loud with decent music. You might have a wait at the bar to be served. Also watch your change!

Toilets - could do a better job of cleaning & maintenance.

Right in the centre of town in Sheffield it had a very relaxed and nice atmosphere. Good music playing and lots of space on a weekday afternoon. Not too expensive and good place to catch up with friends.

Had to really consider between a good and average on this one.... But average in all fairness. Like the pub - cheap enough, pool tables, good jukebox, good staff. But it's a city centre pub that welcomes students, shoppers, locals and anyone else that happens to wander in. Excellent in theory but doesn't work in practice. Today as an example - significant group of middle-aged males obviously looking to reclaim their 'youth' by acting like children. Students obviously intimidated by the behaviour of the 'locals' and came in one door and left immediately by the other. Shoppers ordering food and then looking like they'd made a mistake and wondered what they'd let themselves in for. Not that the group of lads had done anything particularly wrong but the mix simply doesn't work. Be a student pub or a city pub - don't pretend you can do both. Partner ate and was happy - I really fancied an all-day breakfast but this finished at 12. Could have had it after 3 with a drink if I wanted but refused on principle. £3.79 between 0900-1200 (looked lovely) and after 3 with a drink £9.99.... Please.... Don't treat me like an idiot. And they actually advertise the £9.99 price !! Nice pub - lovely staff - assume they are tied to the pricing as a chain but any business needs to know it's market. Not just take the £££s wherever you can. We we left after drinks so I could eat - next time we'll just miss it out and eat together. Shame...

My wife and I visited with our student son and we had 3 meals in dog bowls (chili, chicken, scampi with piles of chips), a selection of puds, and 3 drinks (including a decent pint of Cumberland ale) and with student discount got change from £20!!! Now it's not posh by any stretch of the imagination but decent food and good atmosphere
