It is with regret that I feel obliged to write this review, as this restaurant was easily one of my favourites and through my last visit and subsequent broken promises it is somewhere I probably won’t return to.
Firstly, my fiancée and I had visited 4 times previously and loved it every time we went. The food was sublime and the service of the friendly and knowledgeable staff was just as good. My partner did in fact leave a rave review on this website after our first visit and I made sure I recommended the place to my friends who like to eat out often.
Bearing this in mind it made it all the more disappointing that our last visit (Sunday 4th May) was so bad. We had booked the meal to show my fiancées parents how good this place was too.
Upon arriving we were sat at our table and given menus. Immediately we were advised that the Chicken supreme wasn’t available, disappointing as I was going to order that, but not a big problem as there was still Pork or Beef to choose, I thought.
We ordered our drinks whilst we had a look at the Sunday dinner menu. The cider we were advised was available did not arrive as this had also run out.
We ordered our food and within a reasonable time the starters arrived. The salmon starter I had was beautiful and I enjoyed every mouthful.
We all finished our starters, but by this time our drinks still hadn’t arrived at the table – poor service.
Then we were told that the Pork (which I had ordered) had “ran out”. This was now the third thing that had become unavailable – we could change our order, or “wait a bit longer” because someone had “ran out to the shop” to get some. This sort of service is the polar opposite to what we received on our first 2 or 3 visits.
The menu and website state the food is locally sourced; however “nipping” to the Tesco to fetch some pork steaks is not the sort of locating I expected at all.
Because of this I changed my order, as my future Father in law did, and we had the Beef. Again, no problems with the food that was available, and I didn’t leave a drop. The portion sizes were noticeably smaller than all previous visits as well I must add.
As I went over to pay the bill, I expressed our disappointment and explained how much different the whole experience was compared to our previous visits. The ‘manager’ came out to discuss this. He explained that it was a bad day, and there were a few issues which he was dealing with etc and took my name and phone number to call me during the following week. I was told that I would receive a call and all 4 of us would be invited back on the house.
It’s now 14th May and 10 full days after our visit. I did not receive a call from the management and this follows suit from the poor service we received during the day.
