We found the Strines by accident and were most satisfied with our fare and the drinks. We saw no rats but unlike London where there are many more rats “country” rats are generally less disease ridden than the London ones where I used to live! As for a children’s playground the absence was a plus as far as we are concerned as it encourages parents for example to forsake their charges rather than interact with them and keep them amused. Consequently they can annoy others. So my vote is forget the playground and you may find custom increases in fact.

The Strines inn, lovely old building, gorgeous position. The food was was average, not bad but quite ordinary. Not easy running a pub in the middle of nowhere, but with a bit more care it could be a go to destination. Not a once in a blue moon , see what it’s like place. Still seemed busy.

We came across this pub by chance whilst driving on the Snake Pass. Lovely old pub, full of character and the views of the Strine reservoir and surrounding countryside are fantastic. Ideal place to sit in or out. The food was nice too, we had sandwiches and a bowl of chips.

We visit The Strines every few weeks for an evening drink or a weekend meal with family. Especially in the summer!
They need to get the kids play area back up again- the swings are missing? On our last visit we would’ve stayed late if the kids had somewhere to play. It’s a shame... as you go there to sit outside when the weather is good.

The outside junk shed- there were huge rats running in and out of it, probably a good idea to clean it out, considering how close patrons sit to it on the outside benches!!

The food is good. Basic and fairly expensive, but good. Biggest gripe is that you can’t order a bowl of chips unless you order a meal?? I get it- they are good homemade chips, but put the price up or create a share type of bowl rather than flat out refuse your customers wanting to buy a bowl of chips even though you you’re buying a few rounds of drinks (£££). I would rather you put the price up by a few quid and have a sharer bowl than feel forced to buy full meals when we only want a snack whilst we’re outside drinking.

Almost our local from where we stay on holiday. Lots of character, not Haute cuisine but not expected to be. No issues with the staff just treat them with respect.
