“Lovely Indian - just don't go when its busy!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012 via mobile

This is my favourite Indian food in Sheffield, but be warned if you go on Friday or Saturday night as you will struggle to be seated and wait a very long time to be served. Serving time is generally longer than most restaurants as I think they cook it fresh. Pickles are awesome and loads more choice than anywhere else, very good vegetarian dishes, the daal saag (spinach and lentil curry) is one of the best.
Nice enough interior for special occasions too.

“Fantastic food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

This really is one of the best Indian restaurants in Sheffield. The food is always fantastic and the service and ambiance make for a very enjoyable experience. Don't expect to be in and out in half an hour, this is a proper dining experience with excellent pickle tray and authentic dishes throughout the menu.

Our recent visit was a Saturday night and it couldn't be faulted, even though it was very busy.

If you haven't tried it, put it on your 'to do' list!

“Horrid Experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

This was the most horrid experience we have ever had while dining out. The restaurant at the first glance looked ok although we were given the most useless seat out of all the available ones. We ordered our food and it came after a long wait of 45 minutes. Everything seemed ok until this couple who had just finished their food stood up to leave and to our horror the woman came near our table and yelled at us for no comprehensible reason. It was absolutely shocking and we hardly got any time to react and ask why this lady reacted in such a way. Before we could recover from what had just happened we saw her walking out of the place with some constant ranting and chatting with the hotel staff/owner, which was indicative of an abusive intent. We were even more surprised when no one from the hotel management intervened in the middle or even apologised to us for all this. The management was mum on everything and behaved as if nothing had happened. We clearly thought this to be an invasion of privacy and a verbal racist attack. We surely do not recommend a place like this to dine where people are not valued and treated equally. Also, a place where the management is not courteous and serious enough to deal with such situations are surely not to be trusted for anything else.

The food was horrible and the restaurant service was despicable. When we ordered a nan bread for the second time, it never came for the next 20 minutes and we had to remind them again for getting it.

Please avoid this place if you are a lover of good food and you really value your dignity and self-respect.

There are lot of good restaurants in sheffield and around crookes and you can surely avoid this atrocious place ...

“Comfortable And Well-fed at Zara's.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

Autumn has set in and the student freshers have arrived in Sheffield; Crookes is teaming with young people after its summer quietness - many of them carrying maps in their hands and hunting down fast food in various establishments spread along the high street. My dining companion and I ducked into Zara's to a calmer atmosphere with no young people seeking out a ready source of alcohol with their new-found friends. Zara's didn't look like a place where the students were likely to be infiltrating, especially judging by the prices on the menu. Yes, very calm and perhaps rather old fashioned in style and decor. But cosy and comfortable like the Asian equivalent of an old English country pub.You can almost picture a log-burning fireplace in the room. Excellent service - pleasant but not intrusive, well-timed, helpful, polite. An interesting menu - I had a delicious crab starter and then one of the chef's specials - a sort of bhuna, full of gravy flavour rather than the spices you might normally expect at an everyday, less interesting sort of Asian restaurant (I can see why some previous reviewers have moaned about not been served a spicy meal, recommendation: recognise that not every Asian meal is packed with chilli and it's always helpful to read what the menu says about a dish). My lamb was perhaps a little chewy unlike my companion's meat which had clearly had a sustained period of slow cooking to form a delicious spicy stew (unfortunately he hadn't read the menu properly either so he found the dish too spicy for him so we ended up swapping dishes with each other). I should mention that we had started off with a couple of poppadoms and had the accompanying pickle dish with 8 different pickles which was the very best pickle selection I've ever had in an Asian restaurant and well worth the money. We both felt that Zara's is a very good restaurant and I shall certainly return to try some more of their interesting dishes. Very reasonable value and very enjoyable. We left the restaurant feeling full and happy as the new students milling around Crookes headed for the local pubs for another evening of rejoicing at their escape from home and their parents' beady eyes which no longer can keep an eye on their antics.

“Well recommended”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

Having been recommended by friends to try Zara's I had the opportunity one Tuesday night to give it a try when a business colleague was staying over in Rotherham and we generally go for a curry and a catch up even though it involved a decent journey to get there.

We hadn't booked, yet a table was easily obtained but surprisingly for a Tuesday night the restaurant got very busy so I wouldn't take a chance next time, a testament perhaps to it's popularity?

Upon entering we were greeted by Shahbaz the manager whom I remember from many years ago when a group of us were regular visitors to his previous restaurant, Ayeshas on Eccleshall Road.It was also nice that he remembered me and he and his staff pay particular attention to the small details which many others don't and that makes all the difference between visiting once or making sure you return (which we certainly will)

The food was superb and my friend commented that it was one of the best Indian meals he had ever enjoyed and I would certainly endorse his comments.

Great place to be if you enjoy quality food with excellent service and even though it is out of town well worth the extra effort to find it and we are both looking forward to our return in October to celebrate my colleagues retirement.
