Never knew it existed until reading tripadvisor and I've lived in Sheffield all my life. Now I know its there I see it all the time.
I got off at the railway tram stop and climbed the stairs up to Norfolk Road. Its well sign posted so you cant get lost. It was a cold winters day but the crocuses were out and squirrels were playing. Very sad to think how many lives were lost all those years ago. Lovely stone structure and a couple of information boards telling you the history behind the monument and the burial. Amazing view of Sheffield can be seen and I plan a return visit in the summer.

A great place to go and look out over the city centre, yet be alone. Well maintained grounds with adjacent woodland. Highly recommended for a visit.

It is true. Unless you know it is there you don't notice it. Once you've been you will see it every time you pass.

The well manicured lawns help give the monument a presence on this hill overlooking Sheffield. Take time to read about the monument and why it is there as it gives a insight into the horrid living conditions that existed in Sheffield. The monument itself is impressive and the nearby Clay Wood offers a pleasant wander.

I would also suggest a quick walk across the road to look at the Shrewsbury Hospital building. You can't go in but just have a look through the fence. You won't be disappointed.
