Walked down from the city centre to find the museum closed saturdays.

Could not believe it surly it should be the busiest day of the week for families etc.?

Should be more made much more obvious on their web site as I was not the only person to turn up and try the doors!

Visited in January 2013 with my Dad for a post New Year outing. The museum was easy to find although didn't realise there was parking available and for a mid week visit there was plenty of spaces if you found the parking, nevertheless there is ample parking on the street or adjacent car park!
The museum itself was excellent, as my Dad has worked in heavy foundry and industry work for 40 years he found it particulary interesting. But I have to say, for those with limited insight into industrry the musuem offers an honest and interesting interpretation of Sheffield and Northern industries.

The 2pm viewing of the steam was really quite exhilarating too, what a great piece of engineering and history.

The cafe was also well appointed and the bacon and egg cob was well received (although the brown sauce had seen better days : ( )

There is obviously alot of regeneration happening in to this part of Sheffield and I would say the museum and the surrounding streets are well worth a trip. We also walked into the City Centre to visit the Millennium Gardens which is about 10 ish minutes walk away.

My Dad's only criticism of the museum was that the the video footage could have done with subtitles, having done his shift in heavy industry his hearing is a bit past it!

Excellent wee museum and an interesting insight into everyday industry, which for many industries is unfortunately a thing of a the past and rightly museum worthy!!

I have been attending this museum since it first opened twenty or so years ago and it has progressively changed. I feel there is room for more exhibits but what is there are showing Sheffield as the true power house of the nation.I have taken many German visitors young and old and they have all been in awe of the river don engine especially when it is in full steam.I would recommend to anyone who is interested in industrial history to visit and i am sure that you will be pleased that you have learned something of our great citys past.
