Owner description: The Cathedral is Sheffield's oldest building, the ancient heart of a great city, where God has been worshipped for over a thousand years. It has watched Sheffield grow and develop over the centuries, and it tells a story - of great women and men, of wars, of industry and commerce, and of the people who have lived in Sheffield. Here people have prayed, made music, offered hospitality and cared for the poor, as they do still today. The building reflects its many uses, with the traditional worship spaces including the grand high altar and the quiet crypt chapel, but also the busy conference centre, and the Archer Project area where the homeless and vulnerable find what they need Here every visitor will find something to interest them. You can book a special visit, or just call in and explore. You may find that a service is happening, in which case you can join in or not as you choose. Everyone is invited - Sheffield Cathedral is a place for all people. We are open every day of the year.

Took my daughter for a visit here as we have walked by many times but never been in. It is lovely inside with lots to see but unfortunately because of the work going on we could not see it in its full glory. Will have to return once complete.

If you have half an hour to spare whilst in Sheffield town centre it's worth popping into the cathedral for a look back to an interesting time in our history. My daughter wanted to visit on our recent trip to the UK to see George Talbot's tomb. We were lucky enough to have a local historian there at the same time and she gave us a detailed account of the history of the cathedral as well as the relationships between George Talbot and Henry VIII, as well as Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth I. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Really lovely cathedral with some beautiful stained glass, it quite often hosts classical concerts and recitals.

The warmest church / cathedral I have ever been in! Some interesting stained glass and the railings made from swords and daggers was unexpected for a religious building - I suppose it being in Sheffield was significant. Amazed at the number of different chapels.

A very unusual building - a perpendicular gothic anglican church with an attached chapel which was still catholic in the 30s and new modern additions.

A plan to reorientate the main building which never came to fruition has resulted in an unusual shaped cathedral which is not easy to navigate. Don't miss the basement crypt and columbarium and chapel of the Holy Ghost.

The screen made of swords and bayonets in the St George's chapel is unique.

A fine collection of carved gilded wooden green men in Tudor Shrewsbury chapel.

No charge for entry. No regular guided tours available but simple descriptive leaflets free of charge.
