brilliant value for a large family room and breakfast. Got this room for 3people and it was £25, well worth it! Lovely location and friendly welcoming staff. Looking forward to going back in the summer.

I have eaten at the Fox house on quite a few occasions a while back and found it very nice. However, I had lunch there today with my partner and the experience was less than satisfactory. It took 15/20 minutes to actually order for a start (it was midweek). We ordered two bowls of soup and a sandwich. We waited 45 minutes for this to arrive. When it did come it was the smallest bowl of soup I have every been served in a restaurant. The one slice of bread on the side was not fresh either. I was left hungry (I am 5 foot 2 and not overweight!). We ordered coffee afterwards (We had to stay as I needed to feed my 4 month old son) which took a good ten minutes to make and there was no queue at that point. My partner then went to change our son in the disabled toilet. He found the bin over flowing with nappies.

I would not recommend this pub anymore which is a real shame. I heard several others complaining whilst I was there. The service is incredibly slow and the food disappointing.

As we were working in Sheffield on New Years Eve, booked a meal at The Fox House on the way back. Wanted a room too, but they were already all gone at the time of booking back in September. The Fox House has long been a favourite of ours. Have eaten there many times over the past ten years, but last night was even more excellent than usual. The place was packed as you would expect at this season, but the staff were as friendly as ever, the service exceptional, and the atmosphere delightful. The 4 course meal was chosen in advance. Mine consisted of scallops and prawns in a tangy herby sauce with toasted foccacia, champagne sorbet, salmon with a dill sauce, spinach and bubble and squeak cake, followed by Sussex Pond Pudding. The pud was a refreshing departure from the usual. My companion who, unlike me, is a carnivore, started with rilettes with quince, and followed with roasted belly pork with a good selection of veg. The whole cost of the meal including three drinks was only £61. Can't wait for the next visit.

We popped in and had a fantastic meal. Service was quick, staff friendly and the food was both tasty and well cooked. The pub looked lovely outside although the weather wasn't very nice and inside was warm and cosy with a real fire. We would certainly go back again.

Nice place to pop into when your on your travels! Area-lovely, food-decent, price-good. There is a good seating out area out back and a noisy seating area on the front(next to main road). Worth a try!

We stayed at the Fox House for two nights with friends in November. The pub is really great, cosy, and with great staff. The dining aspect of the pub is also great, we had two very good meals with great wine and friendly service. What let our trip down was the standard of accommodation.
It should be noted that the rooms are not really run by the hotel - they're managed by a different company - Innkeeper's Lodge - who, in my opinion, the Fox House should part ways with as there is such a disparity between the standard of the two halves of the business. The rooms smelled of damp, there was visible mould on the ceilings in our room which had obviously been painted over and then grown through again; rather than been treated.
The decor is not dissimilar to that of a 1990s city centre budget hotel chain, rather than the characterful decor of the pub. And, though the rooms are not expensive so we wouldn't expect luxuries, the hand wash in the bathroom was a bottle of tesco value hand wash and in the shower was a half-used bottle of radox.
Finally, on our last night, we were kept up most of the night by rustling, gnawing and scratching. The staff (who were really lovely and helpful throughout) speculated that it was a squirrel but we suspect mice. Not ideal. As we left, the staff were already looking for the cause so hopefully the matter will soon be resolved.
If the standard of accommodation matched the standards of the pub then I would whole-heatedly recommend staying here. As it stands, I would recommend the pub for a drink and a meal but don't expect to be as satisfied when you retire for the night.

We go to Sheffield about once a year and have stayed in various hotels and been satisfied but this hotel ticked all the boxes in every department.
Friendly helpful staff, clean and very comfortable rooms. Beds that were like soft down and pillows that positively cradled your head.
We arrived in the middle of a very busy Sunday lunch and the place was packed out with at least a 2 hour wait for table. Jacqie went out of her way to sort the room and a made us feel very welcome, while we waited. No drama just good professional attitude, along with a willingness to have a chat.
We have found the gem we were looking for and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel be it for a one night or a week. Bags of character, Brilliant!

Room Tip: When making a booking be sure to reserve a table for dinner as they get very busy.....
