“Consistently Good (eaten in or taken away)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

We’ve been going to the Panahar for years, usually to eat in, occasionally takeaway, it just never occurred to me before to give them a thumbs up! Most importantly, it’s not licensed, so get some pre-prandial, cleansing ales in at the Rising Sun beforehand, then take more beers across the road in pint pots from the pub. Don’t worry about returning the glasses, the Panahar guys will do that tomorrow and the pub is used to it. The menus is pretty standard fare, but the standard of the food is far better than standard, it is very good – well presented, hot and promptly served. Friendly staff who recognise you after a couple of visits, popular with families, locals and visitors. The place is clean, bright and airy on a corner position at Nethergreen with plenty of parking around and bus stops for each direction outside. The menu is varied, some really good choices which I always read, am tempted to sample, then always order the same thing! Prompt service, what more can I say? I’d say, give it a go, you wont be disappointed or overcharged.

“Always Excellent (Takeaways)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

Never thought to review Panahar, which is where I've been getting my Curry Takeaways from on most saturday nights for the last few years, until someone asked me for a decent curry house, and I found myself recommending Panahar, then realising I've never properly reviewed it !

So, what can I say - pleasant staff, convenient location with no car park, but seemingly plenty of on street parking whenever I go. The range of food is fairly standard, the quality is always excellent, and the price is reasonable.

The restaurant probably seats about 60 I suppose, and recently it's never been particularly full, though I expect that's the state of the economy telling, not the state of the food.

The restaurant is unusual for a curry house, in that the location - on the corner of Tom Lane and Fulwood Road, means that it has lots of big windows & bright open views, unlike most other curry houses I have been into which are dull and poky. It is probably at its most pleasant during early evening or daylight hours therefore, when diners can enjoy the airiness and the views.

I have also noticed it popular with families with kids, so I'm guessing they have kids meal offers too. (a guess not a fact).

Anyway, give them a try - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. King Prawn Bhuna is my favourite !

“Great tasting indian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

This is up there with the best tasting indian food.

My whole family loves it.

The starters are delicious and there is so much choice.
The same can be said of the main courses.

It is all reasonably priced too.

Looking forward to going back.

“Could do more”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2013 via mobile

First time at here didn't start too well as the crockery was chipped and certainly did not give a good first impression

Starters were average as was the service, staff were lack lustre and just not customer orientated

Mains were slightly better however the service was just not there

On the whole an average meal
Wouldn't bother going though

Plenty of other Indian Restaurants with better food and service

“A buffet with no food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

What a miserable experience at this restaurant. Supposedly a help yourself buffet on Sundays, unfortunately there was very little food available. For starters there were a few tandoori wings and some broken up popadoms. Clearly the staff take alot of pride in the appearance of their food. There were 3 choices of main courses containing meat, sadly there was not enough to go round. The waiters did lift the lids of the food containers to check how much was left but decided not to replenish them with anymore food. We had to ask if we could try some of the main courses so they begrudgingly put a very small amount out. We felt like we were hassling them by simply asking for something to eat. The staff looked miserable as though they didnt want to be there anyway. I cant say anything positive about this place apart from its bring your own wine policy. They need to understand that if you a running a buffet , offering food is an integral part of the experience.
