I visited Bullion's chocolate making experience and tour this evening and had a great time! What came through was Max's passion for producing high quality chocolate that showcases their single origin cocoa beans. I really enjoyed making my own mini bars and can't wait to come back!

This tour is a must do for any chocolate lover! Located inside the fantastic Cutlery Works food hall in the ever growing in popularity Kelham Island area of Sheffield, you can book yourself on a tour from the Bullion Chocolate website 'Experiences' page. Bullion currently offer two types of tour - the Chocolate Tour (which this will be a review of) and the 'Make your own chocolate bar' tour, which I will be booking then reviewing next! The Chocolate tours are available on Saturdays and the ‘Make your own chocolate bar’ tours are available on a Wednesday evening every 3 weeks or so.
Max is very knowledgeable and passionate about the chocolate making craft and his tour is extremely informative and also interesting and fun. He really gets you involved and gives you a very good picture of how the cacao is (ethically) sourced and how it is made into their three delicious types of chocolate, sourced from Haiti, Bolivia and Guatemala. You are taken through the processes of roasting, winnowing, refining, conching, tempering and moulding, showing you the equipment they use for each stage, some of which may well be working during your tour! During the tour you are also offered a tasting of their three varieties of chocolate and are able to appreciate how differently they each taste to each other (all absolutely delicious!). There were three of us in our party and each one of us had a different favourite! We were also lucky enough to be among the very first people to try Bullions upcoming Fine Dark Milk chocolate, and wow it tastes so good! You are presented with a Bullion Chocolate cookie as you leave as a tasty memento to go with anything you want to order from Bullion (or anywhere else in Cutlery Works!) afterwards – or to just take home and savour in your own time. I highly recommend this tour for a very enjoyable 45 minutes for people of any age. You’ll never look at a bar of chocolate the same again, and you'll want them all to be made by Bullion!

We had a fun and informative tour where we got to try the different types of chocolate that Bullion creates. Max is so engaging and we learnt a lot. Next we tried the hot chocolate. I had the dark chocolate one with oat milk and it was, without exaggerating, the best hot chocolate I've ever had. My daughter had the milk chocolate one and loved that too. Planning to go back to try more bakes as they all looked amazing.

We had a really enjoyable tour and talk from the enthusiastic and knowledgeable owner, Max.
This was a family tour we got by being able to back them via a Kickstarter campaign.
Max told us about how chocolate was grown and even cut open a fresh coca bean pod for us to see inside. He went through the various processes on what is involved even before you get anywhere near the tasty chocolate. It was really informative and our 3 kids enjoyed it as much too. We got to see how the processes work and what the equipment is all used for.
Then we got to the chocolate tasting, which was of course really fabulous! There were different ones to try and Max explained what they were, where the beans were from and how to taste chocolate properly....just let it melt on your tongue of course!
We were encouraged to ask questions and even went away afterwards with cookies with great big chucks of their chocolate in!
I would thoroughly recommend you try a tour as you learn so much, and it is great to support a new local business. Cutlery Works where they are based is worth the trip too.
Thank you Bullion, we will be back soon to try the Brownies and hot chocolate I am sure.

As part of our Kickstarter funding for Bullion Chocolate we were given a tour of the bean to bar facilities which was really enjoyable and informative.

The tour lasted about an hour and we learnt all about the process of making chocolate, from the bean to the bar and what goes into the making of top quality chocolate.

The tour finished with a tasting of the Bullion chocolate varieties and we all left with a rather tasty chocolate cookie.

Note to Bullion - you might like to offer tour parties the opportunity to purchase a bar or two at the end of the tour as we would certainly have purchased several bars :)

Highly recommended.
