A modern pub, nicely decorated with comfortable leather seating, stone flooring and suttle lighting. An extensive menu with good value lunch offers mon-Fri.We had 2 courses at £6.50.Evening menu still reasonable (this pub is part of a chain so the same menu can be found at other pubs around the south yorkshire area).Quick service, nicely presented quality food and friendly staff.

I've been here about 6 times this year. As a party of 6 or as a couple, the service has always been attentive but not in your face. They vary the menu and there is always plenty to choose from AND the wine is decent too. We'll be going back for a special occasion in November so I'll post again with comments about the food. My previous experience has been that starters, mains and dessert were all excellent value for money and the atmosphere is pleasant too.

I've been coming to the Admiral Rodney for many years - I remember the old legendary carvery days and I recall summer afternoons spent outside looking over the valley from the outside tables.

It's had it's ups and downs over the years - one particular period was woeful. Thankfully, it's up to a good standard again now.

I, and friends/colleagues, probably eat here about once a week. For a Friday lunch from work it's perfect - a decent cheapish menu with nice but not over-the-top food. The Crispy Chicken main is a decent staple meal for us on these particular jaunts.

I've tried probably most of the menu, and enjoyed most dishes. The biggest drawback of the while thing is the pies (whether a pastry pie or a shepherds pie) - not only should they come with a nuclear fusion warning they are so hot, unfortunately they are found wanting. Whilst they are nice, there is simply no filling. You get a dish about 3-4inches tall and looking good, but the filling barely covers the bottom inch once you've broken through the pastry/potato topper.

The steaks are decent, if pricey and the mixed grill is something to behold!

The service is probably the biggest plus - nice friendly staff who always go out of their way for a few moments of conversation and to check everything is ok.

All in all its a decent place to go out of your way to on occasion - whether for lunch (try the special menu with mains for £6, two courses for £8 or three courses for £10), an evening dinner or a nice Sunday lunch. And do try to make the trip in Summer to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and view.

As we hadn't booked a table for dinner on a busy Saturday night, we decided to look for a table in the bar area instead. It was spacious and we easily found a table for five. On our way in, we were greeted by the friendly landlady; the servers who dealt with our order turned out to be just as friendly.

Drinks and food had to be ordered at the bar but, once it was ready, the food was brought to our table by a waiter. We had a couple of starter platters which everyone liked and the same was said about the main courses. Those arrived shortly after we finished the starters so there wasn't a long wait.

Overall, there was a nice atmosphere and it wasn't too noisy or crowded. I really enjoyed my visit to the Admiral Rodney and hope to be able to visit it again soon.
