“Cold in more ways than one .”
Reviewed January 6, 2011

We visited The Devonshire on our wedding anniversary on the 21st of december 2010 we used to live quite nearby but it was our first visit , It was a cold night when we went but the first thing we noticed was how cold it was inside ( my wife sat with her coat on throughout the meal )
The service was provided by two young girls about 20 years of age and not very experienced which showed , they were pleasant enough but not attentive enough for the prices that were charged , My wife went with the crimbo set dinner which was very average , i had a Ribeye steak £18.95 which was good but again it was a little cold , The kitchen staff seem quite switched on and got the food out quick ,which was a bonus because we could not wait to get the bill and go home for a warm .
Hand pulled beer was good .
My overall dinning experience 6/10
Value for money 5/10

Thank you for your review, we welcome our customers feedback.
Unfortunstely on the day of your visit our underfloor heating had broken down, this coupled with an extremelly cold outside temperature, despite open fires in the pub, meant that the temperature was lower than we would have liked it do be.This problem has now been resolved .
We look forward to seeing you again.

“Worth the occasional trip”
Reviewed November 9, 2010

Having used the dev' for nearly 20 years,i was really pleased to see it open again and doing so well. This was my first time in the pub since it re-opened and was pleasantly surprised at how good it felt to be back in there, although a lot more modern it retains the feel of the pub i spent so many happy times in.
The menu was not huge, but offered something for everyone surely. The food was lovely and i cant fault it,although three pounds for the side salad seemed exorbitant for what it was.The service was fantastic and the waitress seemed genuinely interested in us rather than just bringing the food out of duty.
All in all a lovely meal just spoiled by the odd thing,i hate to feel i am being over charged for anything and the price of the salad and the premium beer i had just took the edge off a wonderful meal.I will return again but perhaps not as often as i would have done but for these two little blemishes.

“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed June 14, 2010

Great food in a beautifully modernised village pub with restaurant within 10 minutes drive of Dronfield, Chesterfield and south Sheffield. Great atmosphere in the bar especially on music nights. We love it, so glad we found it hidden away in Middle Handley!!

“A great find”
Reviewed September 12, 2009

We visited the Devonshire Arms expecting to find the usual pub grub, so to find a small and exclusive restaurant, with open kitchen, came as quite a pleasant surprise.

Only recently opened, the restaurant in the refurbished Devonshire Arms, initially specialise in fish and seafood dishes - from a contemporary, yet filling take on fish & chips, to a grand seafood platter for two. You'll also find old favourites like roast beef.

Fresh and local produce are used where possible and this is reflected in the prices - you wouldn't come here to dine on a budget. However, whilst I did find the food value for money, I did disagree with the price of the basic side dishes.

It's really great and encouraging to see a place clearly passionate about good food, opening in this part of Sheffield and I sincerely hope that things can only go onwards and upward from here.
