We visited The Devonshire (again) on 2nd August. It never ceases to impress. From the stunning interior, (a mix of contemporary and traditional) to the professional yet friendly service not withstanding the food which is after all the main reason people go - it couldn't be more perfect. If you want freshly prepared, locally sourced food with classic to contemporary dishes, then The Devonshire Arms is the place to go. The special starter of crab, avocado and tomato salad was divine but if you're happier with something more simple then the calves liver, or fish and chips is equally yummy! The menu is small but perfectly formed and there is always a specials board for your perusal. Special thanks to Jill the landlady for her friendly welcome and Alastair the manager for his advice, skill and expertise. They have a superb range of real ales and wines.
We travel from Leeds and since our first visit at the end of 2012 it's almost become our local. We visit every fortnight or so and we've always been extremely impressed. Also we have to mention the amazing 'Acoustic Lily' duo who were performing live (live music first Friday of the month). It really added to the atmosphere. All the locals are ultra friendly. I really can't fault it - we just need to move closer so we can visit more often.

Visited on a Friday night and had a great time. Service is always just right, friendly and attentive but not OTT. Food choices are not extensive although they have a good mix of pub classics and daily specials. I like the fact that the food is freshly prepared within the open plan kitchen. The food is of a high quality and you get what you pay for. If you visit on a Thursday they sometimes have live music in the bar.

Visited on a friday evening based on reviews we'd seen in local press. From the moment we arrived we liked the look of the place. We were met with a cheerful man who took us to our seats straightaway and left menus for us to consider.

The prices were not cheap, especially for a country pub, however, we both found them to be worth it for the standard of food compared to perhaps some places slightly cheaper but with nowhere near the standard.

We both ate the same 3 courses and were both hugely impressed, pate, fillet steak and a chocolate mousse. The steak was the best I have ever had.

For these three courses, plus 2 glasses of prosecco, a pint and a half of ale and a cappuccino the bill was £83.00 excluding service, however, whilst this appears high, if you are used to eating out you will appreciate whilst it may be £10 more than somewhere else for the same meal the standard of the produce and the cooking skills make it more than worth the additional.

We shall definitely be returning again. Not an every week occurance but definitely on the map for when we want to spend that little extra to treat ourselves.

PS I also think it would be a nice place to just go for a drink.

This was our first trip and certainly won't be our last. The service was very friendly and welcoming on quite a busy night for group parties. My husband had Gammon which was good value for money and filled him.I chose the lamb but was thinking it was a bit pricey at over £17 but love lamb so decided to be spoilt. Although it tasted beautiful the portion was poor for the price and just one more little piece would have been a little more acceptable.I was desperate to say something but the staff were so lovely and I don't like to make a fuss!We then shared a toffee pudding which was amazing and we fought over the last couple of mouthfuls!Lots of local people in our quieter side of the restaurant who obviously were well known by the staff and nothing seamed too much trouble.

Wingerworth Ladies' Club chose the Devonshire Arms as the place to have their summer outing for a meal yesterday evening. All 39 agreed that it was the best meal out we had ever had and could we go back again. The 3 course options put together by Alistair were perfect for the hot evening. Service was very efficient and attentive. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. Well done to all the staff and a special thank you to manager Alistair for his attention to detail.
