Description: The Guardhouse Restaurant at the Garrison is brimming with unique historical character, built in 1854 it was the only walled barracks of its kind in Europe. The original cells and guard towers are all maintained and combined with classic interior decor. The British themed food is made with fresh ingredients and specially prepared by our chefs, there are also opportunities to experience good value taking advantage of the 2 courses starters and mains together.

“Not as good as i expected...”
Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

Visited on a Saturday night as part of a big party for a birthday meal, had 3 courses for what I believe was around 17 pound each. We had pre ordered our food as the group was so large.

The meal itself was average, not as good as we has expected however nothing major to complain about. We were in a room down in the bottom which was private, there was one mix up with the food we had ordered as we had rung up that day to change one order and this hadnt been changed over, for us however this wasn't a problem and we just took the original choice of main.

The main problem I found was the disabled access in the room we was sat in was quite poor, we was in a private room downstairs which was nice however the disabled acess was a walk around the outside of the building and the disabled toilet was up a few steps. It was also really cold in the room we was put in.

For a starter I had garlic mushrooms it was a nice dish however couldn't taste no garlic. Chicken for a main which was just average although was told the beef was really nice and a chocolate cake dessert which was nice but too rich so nobody in the party could finish there plate.

The service however was very good, very polite and fast service.

Although the quality of the food was not quite what we had hoped for there was nothing too major wrong with the food or service.

“Great value”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Ate here recently and I can highly recommend it.

For traditional pub food its good quality and I think offers great value.

The pub offers a wide selection of beers including a good real ale selection in a traditional cozy English pub setting, its easy to forget its part of the garrison fortifications.

One thing to note is that it gets very busy before and after Sheffield Wednesday games as its very close to the ground and is probably the nicest pub in the area especially for people wanting food before or after a game.

Its certainly worth checking if Wednesday are at home if you plan to visit on a Saturday afternoon.

£5.95 for a baguette and chips is not the cheapest but it is good value as the food is excellent and you receive a decent sized portion. Also they have decent veggie options which always makes a nice surprise.

The bar is really lovely the way it is set out, very traditional and beautiful.

We've been to the garrison for the last 2 years for Christmas dinner it's always been very good.
But this year it was very poor by charging £65 p/h you would expect a lot better than we got, half of our group ordered the duck breast we received two meagre pieces covered in a red sauce.
The steak was covered in a seafood and tomato sauce which was horrible and had a funny taste.
The Christmas pudding also had a funny after taste , and for the coffee and mince pie we didn't even receive them.
All in all I don't think we will be going there again .
