We spent two nights at Barnfield while guests at a wedding in Sheffield. From the moment Helen welcomed us we knew it was going to be a great stay and we weren't disappointed in any way. What to single out? The pristine bedroom with the view up the Loxley valley, the capacious bath, the the superb breakfasts (scrambled egg and smoked salmon my personal favourite), the local knowledge and collection of historical and reference books. Then there were those little extra touches that make all the difference (slippers & dressing gowns, the perpetually full bowl of sweets on the staircase)

Quite simply the whole experience showed the difference between a good B&B and an excellent one.

Room Tip: Robin of Loxley - the view AND the bath!

Had a great night staying at Barnfield (April 2013). Helen, Michael and the team were excellent. Highly recommend to use as a base for anyone going for walks in the Peaks or going into Sheffield for any reason. Rooms lovely and clean with great views over the valley. Breakfast was varied and had a good, hearty quality.

This is one of the most welcoming places I have ever been. It's beautifully decorated, the service is fabulous, it's spotlessly clean and the breakfast is superb.
To top it off, the views are wonderful.
I shall return.
Thank you for a fabulous stay.

Room Tip: The Robin of Loxely room is huge, two windows, amazing views and you need a passport to get from one side of the bed to the other!

Quite simply streets ahead of any posh hotel. Lovely rooms with everything you could want: comfort, style, tea and coffee, free wi fi, chocolates, dressing gowns and slippers and a breakfast to die for. Even magazines and boks about Sheffield and the surrounding area.

Helen and Michael are a delightful who make you so welcome.

The location is excellent in that you can walk in glorious countryside or nip down to the park and ride and take the tram to the city.

When you've stayed here you won't want to stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Robin is an enormous room with super views but all the rooms are lovely.

We stayed for 3 nights over Easter and had a really enjoyable stay. The B&B is located just outside Sheffield (just past the village of Loxley) on the edge of the Peak District. The owners are very friendly without being on top of you during your stay but there were a number of small touches which really showed the care and attention they provide to their guests. As it was easter we had an easter card and 2 small easter eggs waiting for us in our room and the eggs were replenished on each day of our stay!

We stayed in the Maid Marion room which was extremely comfortable with a good size four poster bed and a large selection of complimentary teas and coffees and bathroom products. The room has a TV and enjoys views out onto the hills surrounding the property. The en-suite bathroom has an electric shower. Both rooms were spotlessly clean.

There is a good range of cold and hot breakfast options including a delicious haloumi with bacon and tomato house special. The breakfasts have won local food awards. There is also a downstairs guest lounge although we did not use this.

There is a pub that serves food all day within easy walking distance down the road of the B&B and there are a number of other excellent pubs in the area. However, although there is a bus service that goes out along the road the B&B is located on you really would be advised to hire a car. There are great walks and places to visit throughout the Peak District and a car really is a boon to be able to visit them.

The only tiny, tiny downside is that checkout is at 10.30am which is understandable given it is a family run place but would be nice if it could be a little later. Also, breakfasts are served relatively late at the weekend (8.30am-9.30am).

Overall though a fantastic place to stay to explore this beautiful part of the world.
